The irony of many Christian leaders passionately advocating for the rebuilding of a third Jewish temple is almost too rich. Jesus himself, the cornerstone of their faith, foretold the destruction of the second temple, emphasizing that “not one stone would be left upon another.” And indeed, in 70 AD, that prophecy came to pass when the Romans razed the temple. Jesus’ message was clear: the physical temple was no longer the focal point of God’s presence, as he embodied the new “temple” through his life and resurrection.

To hold onto our God-given identity in a world increasingly shaped by technology and control, we must begin by understanding our purpose in God’s world. Why are we here? What is our purpose?

We cannot be defined by our role in a machine-like system that values productivity above all, nor is our worth measured by how seamlessly we can adapt to a life governed by algorithms and convenience.

No one should have patience for Trump to stack his cabinet with warmongering neocons. Trump is not uninformed—if he chooses guys like Pompeo, it’s because he aligns with their agenda. Supporters need to send a clear message: we’re glad he won, but our tolerance for bad decisions is long gone. @realDonaldTrump

The tax collector’s prayer was short. Fear and shame held him back from saying much, and his sorrow swallowed up his words. But what he did say was right to the point: “God, be merciful to me, a sinner.” And thank God that we have this prayer recorded as one that was answered—we know that the man who prayed it went home justified. And we, too, will be justified if we pray it as he did, through Jesus Christ: “God, be merciful to me, a sinner—the God of endless mercy, have mercy on me, for if He doesn’t, I am lost forever, left in misery. God, forgive me, for I have done so much harm.” He relies solely on God’s grace: He puts no trust in anything else.

Humble people, who lower themselves before God, are submitted to Him, and they will be lifted up. God has blessings prepared for those who receive them as a gift, not for those who demand them as if they were owed. They will be lifted up into God’s love, raised to the heights of heaven.
