The Best Thing in This Life
| By: The Noble Shaykh Musa Abdullah Jibril (حفظه الله)

“The best thing in this life, really, is to have someone who loves you for the sake of Allāh, you have friendship with such a person. Whether it be with a friend, a spouse, your child, anyone who loves for the sake of Allāh and strives towards righteousness. That’s why this topic is so beautiful and vast, volumes could be written on the topic of Al-Mahabbah.
...
That’s why from the best things one can have in this life is to have a friend who loves him for the sake of Allāh. Indeed, all other friendships will be expelled on the Day of Judgement. Friends on that Day will be foes to one another except Al-Muttaqūn - the pious. Those who loved for Allāh’s sake, that is the only love that will remain.

(الْأَخِلَّاءُ يَوْمَئِذٍ بَعْضُهُمْ لِبَعْضٍ عَدُوٌّ إِلَّا الْمُتَّقِينَ)

When there’s love for Allāh’s sake, there is true friendship - intimate friends who hasten and race each other to Allāh. When one falls down, the other picks him up. You find comfort and solace from each other in a world that breaks you continuously, a source of relief for each other. You see each other and your difficulties are eased, and you both hasten to goodness. That’s companionship.

Allāh honours this friendship that’s for His sake. That’s why they are amongst those who are shaded on a day when there’s no shade but His shade.”

[Excerpt from his book, “Does Allāh Love Me?”]

May Allah grant the Shaykh a speedy recovery, forgive him for all his sins and raise his rank. May Allāh grant him a long, healthy, blessed life full of good deeds, Āmīn.

Comment: When my mother passed away (رحمها الله), my father wrote in his condolence to me, the Hadīth:

"If a woman prays her five (daily prayers), fasts her month (Ramadān), guards her chastity and obeys her husband, it will be said to her: Enter Paradise by whichever of the gates of Paradise you wish.”

My father said, "Allāh is my witness she did that and more. For the fifty years I was with your mother she never disagreed with me. I lived pleased with your mother, and Allāh is my witness she died while I was pleased with her, may Allāh be pleased with her."

May Allāh raise her rank to Firdaws and grant my father a long life full of deeds. May Allāh delight your hearts, and bring coolness to your eyes with spouses like that.

‎May Allah reward the luminous faces of my dearly beloved Muslims in the Maldives!

‎Though oceans and vast distances lie between them and ⁦ #Gaza⁩, and though they themselves may be weathering their own trials, they have illuminated the heart of this Ummah with a compassion that transcends borders, tongues, and lands.

‎They have reminded us that la ilaha illAllah binds hearts more firmly than blood or lineage, and they have embodied and exemplified the meaning of the Prophet’s ﷺ words: that the believers are like one body—when one limb suffers, the entire body responds with sleeplessness and fever.

‎Their solidarity, their generosity, and their unwavering empathy stand as a radiant testament to the mercy and unity that define this noble Ummah.

‎"If you turn away, He will replace you with another people. And they will not be like you." (47:38)

‎May Allah accept their efforts, elevate their ranks, and place abundant barakah in their lives and families. And may Allah ease the suffering of our oppressed brothers and sisters in Gaza—grant them steadfastness, divine protection, and a triumphant victory.

“فَمَا بَكَتْ عَلَيْهِمُ ٱلسَّمَآءُ وَٱلْأَرْضُ

“Neither the heavens nor the earth shed a tear over them…” [44:29]

They [the heavens and the earth] cry over a believer and not a disbeliever.

Inanimate [things] know their Tawheed better than many [humans].”

More grievous than the silence surrounding the killing and violation of our brothers and sisters in Kashmir is having or expressing sympathy or support for the slaves of beasts over the slaves of Allah.

Supporting or defending the ape- and swine-occupiers in Filistine is no different from offering aid or sympathy to the cow-worshipping occupiers in Kashmir.

If you regard the suffering of our brothers and sisters in Kashmir as any less than that of our brothers and sisters in Gaza, it’s not just your perception that is flawed, but the very foundation of your Deen itself, which is at stake and requires deep reflection.

Some of my earliest khutab, decades ago, when I first began delivering sermons—and long before I ever spoke publicly about Filastine—focused on the neglected plight of our oppressed brothers and sisters in Kashmir.

The cause of the oppressed Muslims is one cause, and the bond of La ilaha illa Allah transcends all borders.

O Allah, grant victory to the Muslims in Kashmir and heal our hearts from their enemies.

May Allah bring humiliation upon, and expose, all those who show sympathy, offer justification, or align themselves with the vile worshippers of cows against the Muslims.

May Allāh سبحانه وتعالى send His Curse and Wrath upon the cow worshipping Hindus and grant the Muslims of Pakistān and Kashmīr a manifest victory over them.

They’ve struck the Masājid and the Madāris, we ask Allāh to grant the Mujāhidīn domination over them and to cause the flag of Tawhīd to fly high over the entire subcontinent and beyond.

When acts of aggression begin with the targeting and destruction of Masājid—a sacred symbol of Islām—it reveals a deep-rooted hostility toward the faith itself. Such actions serve as a stark reminder of our collective identity as one ummah. Every Muslim is called upon to uphold the principle of walā’ and barā’—loyalty and disavowal—by standing resolutely with their brothers and sisters in #Pakistan and #Kashmir in opposition to the #Hindu oppressors.

Allah says:
"Those who disbelieve are allies of one another! If you (Muslims) do not do the same (become allies of one another), there will be fitnah (trial, oppression, shirk) and great fasād (corruption) in the land." (8:73)

This verse is unique in that nowhere else in the Qur’ān are fitnah and fasād paired together, combined with fasād described as “great”—a warning that violating the banner of Īmān and its strongest bond, walā’ and barā’, leads to serious consequences.

Wherever Muslims are oppressed or under attack, our duty is simple and clear: to stand with them, unwaveringly.

Seeing as loving for the sake of Allāh سبحانه وتعالى is one of the mightiest and most rewarded of deeds, one should be aware that it is also often one of the most tested by Him. One who endeavors to love for the sake of His Lord in any relationship may be met with harm from the party he loves and a sadness that never departs him. When a believer perfects his character to the best extent he is able to, acts with sincerity in said relationship, and treats the other party with Ihsān, Allāh سبحانه وتعالى can test him through the behavior of the one he loves in His path. Very often, such a love will be met with

• Two faced-ness and diplomacy

• Negligence, cliquenness, and haughtiness

• Gossip and backbiting about him or those he loves

• Constant criticism

• Lack of reciprocation of manners

• Intentional misrepresentation of his actions and statements

• Cold distance

• Lies

• Constant subtle jabs and indirects

• Belittlement and magnification of minor faults

• Being blamed for what he’s not guilty of

• Lack of appreciation and disregard for his favors

• Betrayal

And all this often comes when one reaches what he assumes to be the peak of love for Allāh’s sake alone. Here, Allāh tests his character, his willpower, his response, his forbearance, and his nobility upon the unrequited sentiment and treatment. If the love was truly for Allāh, one maintains a level of patience, forgiveness, and magnanimity. A love that is sincerely for Allāh’s pleasure should not be built upon the expectation of reciprocation, favors, and appreciation or the like. One may distance himself for the sake of his honor or to avoid harm, but he would never return such behavior with its like for personal satisfaction or gain. In the end, sometimes the greatest test becomes not letting Shaytān cause you to hate for the sake of yourself one you claimed to love only for the sake of Allāh — to show forbearance at the faults of the believers and to have patience with their harm and mistreatment, simply because they’re believers. So if you intend to form a relationship based on Allāh and for His Pleasure, make sure to constantly employ the Du’ā:

رَبَّنَا ٱغْفِرْ لَنَا وَلِإِخْوَٰنِنَا ٱلَّذِينَ سَبَقُونَا بِٱلْإِيمَـٰنِ وَلَا تَجْعَلْ فِى قُلُوبِنَا غِلًّۭا لِّلَّذِينَ ءَامَنُوا۟ رَبَّنَآ إِنَّكَ رَءُوفٌۭ رَّحِيمٌ

Our Lord, forgive us and our brothers who preceded us in faith and put not in our hearts [any] resentment toward those who have believed. Our Lord, indeed You are Kind and Merciful.

While some rare, beautiful believers make loving for the sake of Allāh سبحانه وتعالى the ultimate joy of this Dunyā with their beautiful manners, noble treatment, and beneficial company, there are others who may cause you to take sadness and disappointment as a constant companion in your life. A deed wouldn’t be so greatly rewarded if it wasn’t so greatly tested.

We ask Allāh سبحانه وتعالى to never make us the cause behind the grief and tears of a fellow believer and to forgive us for that which may have taken place without our knowledge or ill-intent. May Allāh grant every sincere and pure hearted Mu’min companions who please their hearts and return their Ihsān ten fold, who make loving for the sake of Allāh an easy pleasure and not a life long struggle.
