🌾 The Ukrainian ship Golden Bird offloaded its wheat cargo in the port of Tripoli (North Lebanon). It left Ukraine before the current war.

Ukraine accounts for 80% of Lebanon's wheat imports (520,000 tons in 2021) and Russia for 15%. Lebanon produces 50,000 tons of wheat, 90% of which is not suitable for making Arabic bread and is usually for pasta and bulgur (Al-Monitor). Ukraine and Russia account for 70% of Egypt and Turkey’s wheat supply (FT).

Ukraine is a world leader in agricultural exports, as it produces “18% of the world’s sunflower seed, safflower [and] cottonseed oil exports; 13% of corn production; 12% of global barley exports; and 8% of wheat and meslin” (Diario AS). The country is nicknamed ‘breadbasket of Europe’ and can reportedly feed 1 ⁠billion people.

Tensions around several petrol stations in the past few days, as owners are hiding the fuel in storage in an attempt to double their profit after prices increase due to the international crisis.

A petrol station owner was stabbed at least 6 times by a customer.
