Have you ever during your research encountered an entity called the snake emperor? I'll give you full context with an example. You see, I'm a graduated anthropologist (not something I like to brag about). While I was going through my uni courses, I had to go on a mandatory field research in Western Serbia. We were collecting folk beliefs for a case study, to put the long story short. While conducting our research, I met one old lady who told me the following story: 100 years earlier in her village there lived one man. He had a wife, kids and a farm, nothing weird or special about him. One night he had a (lucid?) dream. In that dream, if I remember correctly, he saw a giant snake that could talk and it told:"Hear my word. I'm the snake emperor. You lead a good life and you're a good man. Because of that, I want to give you a gift of understanding and being able to speak with animals. Once you wake up, you'll be able to do that. You must tell noone about your gift, otherwise, you'll die as soon as tell someone about it." And when he woke up, he was indeed able to understand and talk with animals. So, my question to you is have you ever heard of this or any similar entity?

Sounds like whimsical chthonic entity behavior, maybe some centuries of boring christianity were too much for that Naga lord and decided to play games

Why not? The faeric beings are usually described and whimsical but also cruel and well, inhumane since they're not human

That's very similar to what in Estonian culture is known as the Snake King (ussikuningas). I've seen it represented with three heads at times. I'm not sure about it teaching the language of animals though, I'll have to look it up.

Apparently the Mordvins Central Russia have a similar entity (Inekui, 'Great snake') usually depicted with 7 or 12 heads, and it can also fly. By eating its meat one can understand the language of animals. It is a chthonic entity in control of malicious spirits, and in some stories it is won in battle by a man born of the marriage of a bear and a human woman. The half-bear is the ancestor of certain clans among Uralic peoples, such as the Skolt Saami.
