When walking into the lobby of the hotel, you will find a structure consisting of stars placed upon Christmas lights, Where each child from Shamida wrote down their wishes for the New Year on a star they crafted. The hotel has been encouraging its guests and colleagues to contribute, all before January 7 where the children will be welcomed into the hotel to accept their gifts. It's a common misconception that people who've been sexually assaulted and/or raped show certain signs or act a certain way feeding into the issue of women's believability. Trauma manifests differently in each person. Some survivors block the memories of the incidents while others immediately speak about it. If we expect all the survivors to react the same way to abuse, then we become obstacles to their recovery. NEWA calls for everyone to bust and rethink the myth that people react a certain way when going through abuse.
