Miserable Customer Service

I bought an MSI Katana a little over a year ago and it was working fine until one day it no longer powered on. I tried calling their customer service and it feels like pulling teeth trying to get any useful help. It's even worse that they don't respond to emails, and never call back despite promising to do so within 48 hours.

The first issue was that the serial number that came with the laptop was faded and almost unreadable, (despite every other sticker being perfectly fine somehow) and they wouldn't offer any troubleshooting without it. It took a week and 5 different people until someone was able to actual help by matching the battery serial number to the laptop which could have been solved much earlier.

When I finally talked to technical support their only suggestion was to try power cycling it and once that didn't work, told me to bring it to a local repair shop since I was 2 months out of warranty and couldn't send it in for an RMA repair through them.

Finally after sending it in to be repaired which is what I should have done from the get go instead of dealing with MSI, I get told that I probably will need a new motherboard. For some reason though, MSI doesn't sell this particular motherboard on their website. When I reach out again to purchase a replacement, they said that they have replacement ones in stock, but it can only be done through an out of warranty repair. I was told they need to diagnose it and do an in house repair even though it contradicts what they told me earlier.

Anyways I mainly just wanted to rant about my experience and don't really expect anything to come out of it. Probably won't be buying any laptops from them again in the near future.

Almost fried my laptop because of the stupid windows sleep.

Just like what the noscript said, I found my laptop burningly hot in my bag.

(Laptop is on Eco-Silent with Energy Saver)
I left it in my bag for 2 hours assuming that it would stay asleep after closing its lid just like any other day but lo and behold almost got a heart attack when I found it hot as f*ck and wouldn't turn on no matter how much i pressed the power button. After doing a power reset and plugging its charger, it finally turned on, but it repeatedly turned on and off just at the msi logo.

After a few minutes(It finally cooled down) it properly booted. Battery is fully drained but no other issues so far, So yeah i got traumatized and would never leave my laptop (which is only 1 month old by the way) asleep. I made its closing lid to directly hibernate when in battery power. Never trust sleep mode in laptop...

Edit: found 2 possible culprits that woke my laptop while inside the bag...
1.) Saved network (it probably automatically connected)
2.) usb devices plugged in ( mouse dongle in my case)

I'll say this once i'll say this twice i'll say it how many times i need

Invest in a laptop stand, it will save you a hell of a lot of grief.

You don't need a fancy one, you pick one up for max £20-30 but it will do wonders for airflow

Possible to upgrade built in speakers? - Thin GF63 12UCX

Wondering if anyone knows of any way to possibly upgrade the built in speakers. The stock ones work fine but wish they were louder.

MSI Cyborg 15 A12V – High temps while gaming, is this normal?

I’m using an MSI Cyborg 15 A12V with i5-12450H + RTX 4050.
While gaming, my CPU hits around 95°C and GPU goes up to ~90°C.

Performance is okay, but I’m worried about long-term damage and thermal throttling.

Is this normal for this model?
Should I be concerned?
Any tips (cooling pad, undervolt, repaste, settings) that worked for you?

MSI10.SYS error. What is it and how to fix it.

Hi there.

Some days ago, I cant boot win10 correctly because win10 gives me an blue screen of dead. I search this error and gave me something interesting.

For more context, I installed Docker. This program use something called Hyper-v and use VT-X. I dont want to give you a huge explication but, short story, its something that you can emulate environments.

I uninstall docker and disable the VT-X from the BIOS and everything goes well.
Now the explication of why this gave me the blue screen of dead. There is a sys file inside windows/drivers called MSI10.sys. That program will be "protected" by Docker/Hyper-v and, when Mystic RGB trying to access to the driver, windows automatically "kill" it causing the blue screen error.

its a shame but if you want to have something with Hyper-v and change the keyboard colors, you need to use another program like OpenRGB or SignalRGB.

I hope this can help somebody who has this error in the future.

See ya.

MSI Stealth 14 – Balanced Mode no longer limits power after NVIDIA driver update (used to cap ~70W)

Hi everyone,
I’m having a strange power behavior issue with my **MSI Stealth 14 AI Studio (Intel Core Ultra + RTX 40)** and I’m trying to understand if others have experienced the same.

Previously, when using **Balanced mode** (both in BIOS and MSI Center), my laptop was clearly limited to around **\~65–70W combined power**, which was expected behavior. Temps, noise and performance were all consistent with that profile.

Recently, after **updating only the NVIDIA GPU driver** (no BIOS update, no EC update), Balanced mode no longer behaves the same:

* BIOS is set to **Balanced**
* MSI Center is set to **Balanced**
* Windows power mode is **Balanced**
* Yet the system now **exceeds 70W**, behaving closer to Performance mode
* Extreme/Performance modes still work as expected

It looks like the **Balanced profile is being ignored or overridden**, possibly by:

* NVIDIA Dynamic Boost changes in recent drivers
* Desync between EC / BIOS / MSI Center
* Driver-side power management overriding OEM limits

Important details:

* BIOS version is unchanged (E14K2IMS.105)
* M-Flash works normally, but I haven’t updated BIOS
* This started **immediately after a GPU driver update**
* Reinstalling drivers changes behavior, but BIOS settings alone do not restore the old limit

At this point, the only workaround seems to be **manual limiting** (GPU undervolt or power limit via MSI Afterburner), but that’s not ideal since Balanced mode used to handle this automatically.

**Questions:**

* Has anyone with an MSI Stealth / RTX 40 experienced Balanced mode losing its power cap?
* Is this a known NVIDIA driver behavior change?
* Any way to force the EC/Balanced profile to re-apply without BIOS downgrade (which MSI blocks)?

Thanks in advance — I’m mostly trying to confirm if this is expected behavior now or a regression.

MSI Vector 16 HX AI Gaming Laptop

I’m thinking of getting the MSI Vector 16 HX AI Gaming Laptop with NVIDIA GeForce RTX 5080 (16 GB) and 32 GB of RAM.

Is it good for 3d design? I mainly work with fusion 360 and I’m getting into rhino & blender with some light rendering work, I also use 3d scanners and I do medical segmentation with 3D Slicer.

I will be upgrading from a MacBook Pro 2019 intel core i9 with 16 gb of RAM, and I’m between a laptop (mainly this) or building a PC which I’m hesitant about because of portability.

Also, I found it for around 2700$, is that a good deal?
