In exchange for the disarmament and relocation of Iranian-Kurdish seperatist groups based in Erbil, Iran gave security guarantees to US forces from attacks by Shia militias in Iraq, in the short term.

This agreement might also explain the recent movements of coalition forces in Western Iraq near al-Bukamal, which observers have been worried about.
