In contrast, the 2010 Gaza freedom flotilla consisted of several ships and dozens of crew members — who were all determined not to get sent back, no matter what.

Some of them carried bullet proof vests or even knives, and they resisted the IDF for several hours and even managed to kidnap and nearly kill 3 of them.

Many of the crew was eventually killed, yes, but that's a sacrifice you have to be willing to make, otherwise why even start the journey? At least then it would have had an impact.
