*Respect Knowledge Even When Carrying Books*

Our Shaykh Muhammad Ali Ādam al-Ityubi رحمه الله once said to one of his students,

"Look at the students of knowledge carrying their books with their left hand; books are only held with the right hand, out of respect for knowledge."

📗 "Al-Fawāid Al-ilmiyyah" pg. 19.

*The Best Times to Memorize*

Our Shaykh Muhammad Ali Ādam al-Ityubi رحمه الله once said about the best time to memorize:

"Memorize during the times of high energy/vigour: at night, before Fajr, the beginning of the day, after Dhuhr, after Asr, and before sleeping - however the best time is after night sleep."

📗 "Al-Fawāid Al-ilmiyyah" pg. 23.

*A Golden Principle For Memorization*

Our Shaykh Muhammad Ali Ādam al-Ityubi رحمه الله once said to one of his students,

"If you intend to memorize, then do not exceed over your ability in memorizing.

A small portion that remains firmly established (in your memory) is better than (memorizing) large portions that flee."

Should one begin seeking knowledge even if they fear that their intentions are not solely for the sake of Allah?

A benefit read and explained tonight by our beloved Shaykh Muhammad Ali Aadam al-Ityoobi حفظه الله in his explanation to Alfiyyah as-Suyooti (Hadith terminology).

as-Suyooti رحمه الله said,

"And narrate to the one who comes to you seeking knowledge of Hadith, even if his intentions are not pure.
For soon his intentions will be corrected.

We have relayed narrations about notable scholars who have voiced that knowledge refuses to be sought except for Allah's sake alone."

The Shaykh جزاه الله خيرا said in the lesson,

"(Studying) knowledge will (naturally) cause the student to rectify his intention, because knowledge is light and it only guides towards more light."

The Shaykh غفر الله له wrote in his explanation,

"It has been related on the authority of Ma'mar, Habib Bin Abi Thaabit, and al-Ghazzaali with similar wordings that they said,

'We (began) seeking knowledge for other than Allah, but it refused to be sought except for His sake.'

al-Hasan (al-Basree) and (Sufyaan) at-Thawree said,

'We (started off) seeking knowledge for worldly purposes, but then it caused us to seek it for the purpose of the Hereafter.'

Ibn Uyaynah said,

'We sought Hadith for other than Allah, then Allah caused (us to rectify our intentions and it resulted to) what you see now (meaning, He made them scholars).'

Ibn al-Mubaarak رحمهم الله said,

'We began seeking knowledge for worldly purposes, but knowledge directed us to leave the Dunya for (the Hereafter)'"
