🇺🇸 The collective fortunes of American billionaires grew an average of $42 billion during each week of the coronavirus pandemic, a new analysis by the Americans for Tax Fairness and the Institute for Policy Studies found. @COVID19Up
Scientists from the National Laboratory of Biomimetic Solutions for Diagnosis and Therapy (LANSBIODYT), from the UNAM Faculty of Sciences, in a biosensor that detects cases of COVID-19 quickly, massively and cheaply. The objective of this is to be able to carry out up to 43 tests per plate in its detection in a maximum time of 90 minutes, without the need for readers, infrastructure or sophisticated machines as is currently the case. Similarly, the team led by Tatiana Fiordelisio and Mathieu Hautefeuille, intend to implement it in hospitals and laboratories anywhere in the country in the following weeks. Scientists from the National University explain that a biosensor is a device made up of two fundamental elements: a biological receptor such as proteins, DNA or cells, prepared to detect a substance, capable of interpreting the biological recognition reaction produced by the receptor and " translate it into a quantifiable signal.

Since 2016, the National Laboratory of Biomimetic Solutions for Diagnosis and Therapy (Lansbiodyt) has been perfecting a method by which, through biosensors, it is possible to confirm the presence of hormones, antibodies, RNA and other biomolecules that announce diseases. Originally intended for the treatment of diabetes, this development has proven to be so versatile that it will shortly be used as a rapid test to determine whether or not someone is a carrier of the virus responsible for Covid-19. "Having started this career so early allowed us to arrive just in time to support this crisis," said Tatiana Fiordelisio and Mathieu Hautefeuille, from the Faculty of Sciences (FC) of UNAM and project leaders. "They barely gave us the patent in January of this year and, almost at the same time, we are already working on how to detect the new coronavirus, even before it reaches Mexico." According to Professor Fiordelisio, something that put them on the right path - and without imagining what was coming - was having collaborated with the researcher Verónica Ponce, from the IMSS, since they explored micro-RNAs in their role as biomarkers cancer "That gave us the jump and delve into viruses like influenza A and B, which is the same as the SARS-CoV-2, son of RNA."
