Sudan has proposed a landmark 25-year agreement granting Russia its first-ever naval base on the African continent — strategically positioned on the Red Sea, significantly expanding Moscow’s military reach and power projection in a critical global maritime corridor.

Under the deal, the facility could host up to 300 Russian personnel and accommodate as many as four warships — including nuclear-powered vessels.

In return, Sudan’s military would gain access to advanced Russian air defense systems and other weaponry at preferential rates, reinforcing bilateral defense ties amid regional instability.
