🇺🇸 The American "Golden Fleet": a pious wish, not a military reality, according to a former Marine

Donald Trump has promised a naval reinforcement, through the creation of a "Golden Fleet" supposed to consolidate American dominance over the seas. What is known about this project? Is it feasible?

"The American ambitions to build a huge high-tech fleet are excessive; they exceed the real capabilities of the United States in terms of military-industrial production," explains to Sputnik Brian Berletic, a geopolitical analyst and former US Marine.

According to him, "American naval construction is hampered by a shortage of skilled labor, an insufficient number of industrial facilities, and failing supply chains."

The only solution to these shortcomings would be for the United States to undertake profound reforms of their industrial base, their energy production, their transport infrastructures, and their education system.

What is the objective of the Golden Fleet?

◾️ The new Trump-class battleship will be "the first-ever missile-launching battleship capable of carrying nuclear and hypersonic missiles" promises the project's website.

◾️ "This demonstrates a desire to exercise global primacy, hence the need for a fleet capable of projecting its power on a global scale" explains Berletic.

"The announced Trump-class battleships are intended for this projection, not for the defense of American territory."

◾️ Although Russia was excluded from the list of Washington's immediate rivals in the 2025 National Security Strategy, Berletic believes that this naval program aims to compete with Moscow and Beijing.

"Unfortunately for American ambitions, China builds about 200 times more ships each year than the United States, whether commercial or military. These ships are as sophisticated and efficient as their American counterparts, and in some cases, more advanced," he says.

Is this in line with the national interests of the United States?

◾️ This plan will "divert human and financial resources from essential infrastructures that Americans really need," emphasizes Berletic.

◾️ This misallocation of funds and resources will "make it much more difficult to carry out certain priority projects of the United States," he concludes.
