This would require regular audits, but on the current scale of banking such audits are nearly impossible and therefore can be gamed. The only fool-proof way of preventing the imperfect transfer of purchasing power is via blockchain, where banks would be required to hold the equivalent value of all current deposits in the form of Central Bank Digital Currency, convertible to cash on demand, whereas their retail customers could use either cash or credit tokens issued by their bank (which would then be fully backed by CBDC). The first step to solve the problem is of course to acknowledge the problem. Until then CBDC cannot be seen as a favourable development.

the first step seems to have been to get all the ''experts'' in psychology and sociology to reduce the status of adults in society by describing them as behind the times, in thrall to outdated values and morals, and with nothing beneficial to offer youth in a time of ''unprecedented social and technological change'' which they have been spruiking apparently since the mid-1800s. next step was the experts described the many ways that adults have harmed youth (eg authoritarian parenting styles apparently led to young people being drawn to fascism, or adults insisting on old fashioned moral and behavioural codes and preventing youth from ''freely expressing themselves''). then the argument goes, that once adulthood is seen as deeply problematic and with no moral authority, young people are bereft of any clear pathway to adulthood (and also may lack the motivation to even take a pathway to adulthood). this created the ''generation gap'' and the first academic discussions of a ''youth identity crisis'' in the 1940s. it seems to have just gone on from there
