Here are the facts.  During the Bronze Age, 3500 to 1000 BC, five thousand copper mines were excavated on the south shore of Lake Superior.  Millions of pounds of copper were extracted.  Only a miniscule fraction of this copper can be accounted for among the artifacts of Native Americans.

SB 53 was introduced and referred to the Senate Healthcare Committee on 3/7/2023. It was introduced by Senator Tom Butler.

The bill would exempt U.S. Department of Defense conferences and other events held in the state from compliance with state laws relating to public health which conflict with a regulation, law, or condition required by the Department of Defense for attendance at the event. Alabama has a vaccine passport ban, which could be exempted for Department of Defense events.

If the bill passes, it would become effective on the first day of the third month following its passage and approval by the Governor, or its otherwise becoming law.

NVIC opposes SB 53 as it needlessly surrenders the health freedoms of Alabamians to the federal government.

$1B American Recovery has been Allocated.

This week the Alabama State Legislature began and ended their first Special Session of 2023. The only legislative issue they were required to tackle was how to allocate the remaining $1B from the American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA). According to GFOA the funding provided under ARPA allows state and local governments to make strategic investments in long-lived assets, rebuild reserves to enhance financial stability, and cover temporary operating shortfalls until economic conditions and operations normalize. The legislature voted to spend the money on broadband, health care, water/sewer, and storm drain improvements. Next week they go back into the regular session. Many bills will be filed and moving.
