URGENT: The city plans to clear the PATCO encampment Wednesday (3/31) at 11am. Meet at 10am and prepare to defend residents, tents, and belongings from the city’s threat at 11am. Residents have confirmed they want people to come out and defend, and have expressed many thanks for the support so far.
The eviction moratorium was extended until June 30th, but the city isn’t extending this relief to our houseless neighbors. In fact, the city is ignoring the CDC’s advice, which clearly states that encampments should NOT be cleared as it encourages the spread of COVID throughout the city. Come out to support your neighbors, including many former JTD and COVID-hotel residents, as we make our city stronger. Remember, we keep us safe.
Bringing donations for residents is encouraged! PPE, food, and hygiene supplies are always useful.
Entrances to the PATCO underground can be found at 12th, 13th, and Broad along Locust.

This is PATCO encampment resident Jessica Renee Oliver, who was also a resident of JTD (tent city). She asked we spread this video as far and wide as we can. In it she shares her story, shows us some of the encampment, and talks about the unfairness of the upcoming eviction. At 1:30 you can see the damage done to her tent, her only home, by one of the “maintenance men” during a “clean up day”. At the end of the video she says she wishes all neighborhoods in Philly would rise up and make their own tent cities to care for the homeless.

Remember, tomorrow we are defending people’s homes, which means resident voices over everything. Also remember that residents are NOT a hive mind, and it’s standard for people to have different, sometimes conflicting, ideas about what kind of defense they want during encampment clearing scenarios. We learn how to best support by showing up in real solidarity with our houseless neighbors and talking to them about their situation, their lives, and their desires. Often large crowds alone are enough to deter the city from eviction; be mindful of the amount of force being shown and be careful not to escalate things unnecessarily. Stand in solidarity, be respectful as you’re in/around someone else’s living space, and bring your passion!

On sight at 15th & Locust as a number of the City’s homeless are being evicted from an encampment. Police presence is noticeable, certain exits are closed, it is raining. Some residents expressed interest in City services, others have not. Service Day begins…

#OTG There are currently seven officers and an OHS official underground at 15th and Locust bullying this section of the encampment, making them move their belongings arbitrarily, and degrading them for refusing subpar shelter options
