Can Disney fire me for participating in the strike?

I work custodial at Disney World and I’m scheduled the day of the strike, this is the first time I’ve done something like this and I don’t ever usually call out or not come to work, I’m always there and on time, so is there any chance they could fire me? I really just don’t know if there’s any loop holes they could use or something.

Article: Big investors are starting to get worried

Just grabbed some of the more relevant stuff.

https://finance.yahoo.com/news/big-investors-are-starting-to-get-worried-bof-a-survey-105901320.html

"Big investors are beginning to worry about several key fundamentals that underpin the stock market.

Global growth expectations have continued to "fall markedly" in September, according to the latest survey of fund managers out of Bank of America. The survey found that economic growth expectations are at their lowest level since April 2020.

The sharp month-to-month decline comes on the heels of a lackluster August jobs report and an increase in earnings warnings from corporate America as the likes of 3M Company and others contend with the impact of the Delta variant on demand and costs.

Further, a net 22% of those surveyed by BofA expect profit margins of companies to continue to worsen in coming months. That is up from 15% in August."

Experienced Organizers?

EDIT: Typo

Hey y'all,

So I just heard about the general October strike around a month ago and was excited for it until I did some digging and found that there were criticisms of the movement for not being thought out enough or for not having given enough time for experienced organizers to prepare.

So my question is: where are the experienced organizers and what are they saying? Is there any chance to get this "train" back on it's intended course? Should we cancel? Does the date need to be reassessed? Are there any specific websites or directories we can reference?

I'm sick of this unnatural way of living via capitalism. We gotta do something about this.

I'm creating a documentary that explores the current job market and why everyone is hiring but jobs aren't being filled. What questions do you want answered?

Everywhere I go I see "Now Hiring." Yet, many service positions remain open and service is slow. Restaurants, grocery stores, department stores, etc. My grocery store has had open jobs signs for the last month, and I just talked with an employee and they've got 15 open positions they're just unable to fill. They're overworked, underpaid, and anxious about the impending holiday busyness. I want to find out how we got here, what the next few months will look like, and what solutions may be out there. And with October 15th approaching, I'd love to know your thoughts. Thanks

Why are there so many anti strike people here.

It seems like everyone on this subreddit hates strikes and loves big corporations and wants everyone to stay poor forever. Talk about Stockholm Syndrome!

We must take this conversation offline. Who wants to plan a banner drop?

We should plan a banner drop within this next week, with the same slogan on all, to tell our cities to strike. We must take this discussion offline to let it grow, and nation wide, timed banner drops is the best way to bring the conversation to the general public. Please DM me if you are serious.

This movement has just died

I've made a post on here on what I thought would kill this movement in the end, and it finally seems like it's come true.

I joined the subreddit back in early July, wanting to see what all the fuss about. There was no activity, so I didn't really care much because of that, before I was finally informed that there was a discord.

(Honestly that should have been my first red flag of this. The fact that all the organizing is supposed to happen on the discord, but it's almost impossible to find.)

I lurked on the server, never commenting because I wanted to see if it was worth my time. At first, it did. It seemed like there was a "decent" plan in the beginning, that we could build off of and get our demands met. I did think that October was WAY too soon, but I figured it wasn't something to focus on, and that they would definitely change it at a latter date, and it was just a placeholder.

When I ended up being wrong, my hope for the movement plummeted. How can ANYONE think of organizing a movement with only 3 1/2 months?! It's practically impossible. About 160 million Americans are working, and you would need a significant portion of them to get any significant change. How much? I'm not sure, but I've seen estimates between 20-40% at MINIMUM (between 32,000,000- 64,000,000 people if I did the math correctly).

There are 5.5 thousand people on this subreddit.

I'm not sure how many people are in the discord, but I know it doesn't even come CLOSE to what we need. And as of today, there are only 28 days left until the strike.

But that's not the worst of it. I was lurking around the discord, and I saw that two of the big "organizers" had just quit and left the server. So there's really no one left to actually organize it. There's no activity, with somewhere between 10-20 messages sent in the general chat PER DAY.

This movement is dead.

One of the most important places that you can organize is in the workplace and in schools! Talk to your colleagues and other peers to better educate them and to better our workspaces!
