FAQ. 24 - I do not qualify for any of the pathways, and I planned to enter the 2021 Match. What do I do?

ECFMG will consider exceptions for individuals in the following limited, circumstances.

🔹 An exception to the eligibility requirements for Pathways 3, 4, and 5 that: applicants have taken or been registered for any USMLE Step or Step Component since January 1, 2018; and that the date of graduation must be on or after January 1, 2018; will be considered if the applicant can demonstrate one of the following:
- Enrollment in an advanced degree program in health care or related degree (e.g., MPH, PhD program)
- Active participation in basic or clinical science-related research
- Current employment as an advanced clinical care provider in a clinical setting in the United States (will require license with no disciplinary action)

🔹 An exception to the eligibility requirement for all pathways that applicants have taken or been registered for any USMLE Step or Step Component since January 1, 2018 will be considered if the applicant can demonstrate significant, substantive barriers that prevented these activities or delayed completion of the ECFMG certification process. Examples of barriers that may be acceptable include a requirement for military service, displacement due to refugee status, documentation of major medical issue (applicant or immediate family member), and academic pursuits.

🔻If you believe you qualify for an exception based on the limited circumstances above, you will be able to submit your request for exception as part of the pathway application process when it becomes available. Requests for exception will not be considered in advance of application, and there is no guarantee that such requests for exception will be granted.

🔻If you are ineligible for the pathways and the limited exceptions for the 2021 Match, you should monitor the ECFMG website, since we are developing longer-term plans for applicants to future Matches. In the interim, you can continue to pursue other requirements for ECFMG Certification, such as passing Step 1 and Step 2 CK.

🔻 از ابتدای نوامبر ۲۰۲۰، امتحان Step 2CK شامل تعداد سوالات بیشتری در خصوص system-based practice، ایمنی بیمار، مسایل اخلاقی/قانونی و همچنین professionalism خواهد بود.

🔴اصلاحیه🔴

در پادکست U.S. Visa در خصوص waive کردن قانون ۲سال ویزای J-1 بحث Statement of No Need ویا No objection Letter از طرف کشور مبدا مطرح شد. در پادکست به اشتباه اشاره شد که این نامه جز مدارک لازم برای waive کردن قانون‌۲سال ویزای J-1 کلینیکال یا همان رزیدنتی/فلوشیپ در امریکاست. این عبارت صحیح نیست. درواقع، No objection letter برای رفع قانون ۲سال ویزای J-1 زمانی قابل استفاده است که فرد بعنوان پزشک دوران رزیدنتی/فلوشیپ را در امریکا روی ویزا نگذرانده باشد، و این پزشکان از همان ۳راه مطرح شده در پادکست (کار در مناطق محروم امریکا، بحث هاردشیپ و پناهندگی) می‌توانند قانون ۲سال را waive کنند.
این نامه و مسیر برای سایر موارد ویزای J-1 که به دنبال رفع قانون ۲سال هستند می‌تواند استفاده شود.

باعرض پوزش بدلیل این‌ اشتباه، برای اطلاع بیشتر می‌تواند به وبسایت وزارت خارجه امریکا درخصوص قوانین J-1 مراجعه نمایید.

📃No Objection Statement:

Your home country’s government must issue a No Objection Statement. Specifically, its Embassy in Washington, DC must issue the statement.  It must state your government has no objection to you not returning to your home country to satisfy the two-year home-country physical presence requirement and no objection to the possibility of you becoming a U.S. lawful permanent resident.
The Embassy must send the No Objection Statement to the Waiver Review Division. (Note: The Embassy cannot provide it to you to submit.) Contact the consular section in your home country’s embassy in Washington, DC to make this request.
Alternatively, a designated ministry in your home government may issue the No Objection Statement. The ministry would then send it to the U.S. Chief of Mission, Consular Section at the U.S. Embassy within that country. The U.S. Embassy would then forward it directly to the Waiver Review Division.

🔴Note: U.S. law does not permit foreign medical physicians who acquired J-1 status on or after January 10, 1977, to receive graduate medical education or training to request waivers under this basis.

📊 در این گراف، تعداد نامه‌های اپلیکنت‌های ایرانی مچ شده طی سالهای اخیر، و همچنین درصد کسانی که از اساتید ایران نامه برای اپلیکیشن‌شان دریافت کرده‌اند را مشاهده می‌کنید.

📑 بهتر است از اساتید و پزشکان شاغل در دانشگاه‌‌ها و یا بیمارستان‌های امریکا LoR دریافت کنید، و بهتر است از اساتیدی نامه داشته باشید که در رشته مورد نظر شما تخصص داشته و کار کرده‌اند. هرچند اپلیکنت‌های ایرانی، در صورت نیاز گاها از اساتید ایران نیز نامه برای اپلیکشن دریافت می‌کنند.

Pathway 1 for ECFMG Certificate for MATCH 2021:

Eligibility Requirements
▪️Applicant has held a license/registration to practice medicine without supervision in any country at any time on or after January 1, 2015.
▪️Individuals who have held only a license that requires supervised practice, such as a training license, are not eligible for this pathway.
▪️A provisional license will meet the requirements for this pathway if it permits unsupervised practice.
▪️The date of initial licensure/registration may be prior to January 1, 2015, but the license/registration still must have been valid on or after January 1, 2015.
▪️The license/registration does not need to be currently valid.
▪️The license or registration has not been subject to disciplinary action.

🔴Your application must be submitted no later than December 31, 2020.🔴
Once you begin the application, you will have five days to complete and submit it. If the application is not submitted within five days, it will be deleted, and you will need to begin a new application if you wish to apply to a pathway.

💵The fee for applying to a pathway is $900. Full payment is due when you submit your application.💵

For each license/registration, you will be asked to provide the following:

🔹Country in which you are/were licensed/registered
🔹Name of the authority with which you are/were licensed/registered
🔹Date on which you were initially licensed/registered
🔹Whether your license/registration is currently valid
🔹Date on which your license/registration expired, if applicable
🔹Whether the license/registration has been subject to disciplinary action

As demonstration of your licensure/registration, you will be required to provide appropriate documentation for each license/registration from the authority that issued it.

To demonstrate that you meet this requirement, you must do one of the following:
🟢A-Preferred Method: Request that the authority send a Certificate or Letter of Good Standing/Current Professional Status, or equivalent documentation, directly to ECFMG.
-We recommend that you submit your request as soon as possible. You do not need to wait until you apply to a pathway to submit your request to the authority.
-Please direct the authority to send the documentation to licensure@ecfmg.org. Please note that this e-mail address is for regulatory authorities only; e-mail messages received at this address from applicants will not receive a response.

🟠B-Obtain a Certificate or Letter of Good Standing/Current Professional Status, or equivalent documentation, and upload it with your pathway application.
-The document must have been issued within 90 days of the date you submit your pathway application.
-ECFMG will primary-source verify this document.

🟠C-Not Recommended Unless You Cannot Use A or B: If the medical regulatory authority will not send the Certificate or Letter of Good Standing/Current Professional Status directly to ECFMG (A) or provide it to you so that you can upload it during the application process (B), you may upload a copy of your license/registration with your pathway application and ECFMG will attempt to obtain this information on your behalf.
-ECFMG will primary-source verify the documentation and request that the issuing authority provide information regarding your history of disciplinary action. This may delay your application. You are strongly urged to refer to your regulatory authority’s process for reporting on good standing/professional status.

Eligibility for All Pathways
✅Do not have a passing performance on Step 2 CS that is valid for ECFMG Certification.
✅Are not barred by ECFMG from pursuing certification.
✅Are not barred by USMLE from taking a Step or Step Component from August 1, 2020 to January 31, 2021.
✅Have not failed a USMLE Step or Step Component (Step 1, Step 2 CK, or Step 2 CS) two or more times.
✅Have taken or been registered for any USMLE Step or Step Component since January 1, 2018.

In addition to meeting the requirements in Eligibility for All Pathways above, pathway applicants also must meet all requirements for the pathway to which they apply. Please refer to the detailed eligibility requirements for each pathway at the links below.
