Plans to build traveller pitches thrown out after appeal dismissed with ‘severe’ safety risk concerns
In reviewing the original plans, council planning officers wrote: “Proposals for new gypsy and traveller pitches or travelling show people plots/yards will only be granted where there is no conflict with other planning policies and where no barrier to development exists.”
This is a welcome victory for the people of Wiltshire, even if it is done on the back of an administrative rather than a social reason.
Overall, the decision came down to living conditions, which the inspector was not satisfied with, along with the harm to highway safety, which Mr Allen reiterated would be “severe”.
Gypsy and traveller sites often bring destruction to the environment, bring a rise in crime in an area, prevent the land being used for anything productive and generally spoil the area.
The good people of Wiltshire should not have to endure this, no matter what the council wishes to impose on them.
Getting involved in a local authority in some way goes a long way to saving your area from the likes of Gypsy sites

West Monkton Sunday seed swap
The small village of West Monkton, just outside of Taunton, Somerset, is hosting a seed swap event on Sunday 20th from 1pm-3pm at Brittons Ash community hall.
These events are great ways for an aspiring green thumb to get seeds from fellow like-minded garden and vegetable lovers, to turn your garden or bit of Britain into a thriving, biodiverse boon to both nature and beauty.
Last summer, we saw French farmers protest over a new law that would criminalise seed saving. As with so much of the horrors on the continent, it can be assumed that there are similar forces that wish to push that level of totalitarian nightmare central planning here.
Fortunately, we are still free to do our seed swaps and buck the system.
Go and meet new friends, help save your country by starting with saving your garden!

130 homes in "logical extension" to Paulton rejected.
Top quality farmland in Paulton has been saved after “unsustainable” plans for 130 homes were thrown out.
More than 360 people opposed proposals for a 7.4-hectare site off Farrington Road, with many claiming the village has already taken its fair share of housing and is “fit to burst”.
Once more, property developers are trying to sink their teeth into an area and get as much money out of it before leaving and never being seen again, like a thief in the night.
Rejecting the application, Bath and North East Somerset Council officers said: “The proposed development would result in the loss of grade 1 agricultural land. This is only permitted if significant sustainability benefits are demonstrated to outweigh this loss.
Property developers will always sell them building new houses as done out of need, never answering why the population for the country always has to increase, why many of them are doners to political parties, why politicians are many times friends or shareholders with property developers.
A lot of the houses are barely above matchstick, they hold together long enough to get people in, mortgaged up and then the developers avoid as much liability as possible.
We applaud the people of Paulton rejecting any further developments.
