On this day, 31st March 1862:
The opening of Watchet railway station in Somerset. It was chosen as the terminus of the West Somerset Railway as the town had been an important regional port on the Bristol Channel since the Middle Ages. The WSR is the longest standard gauge independent heritage railway in the United Kingdom.
Watchet was the original terminus of the West Somerset Railway when it opened in 1862, a fact which is reflected in the position of the station building at right angles to the railway line. The railway was extended to Minehead in 1874. The attraction of Watchet to the railway developers was the promise of traffic generated by the harbour, and there was a network of sidings that served the East Quay, with access controlled by a tall signal box that stood on the station platform. All these have now gone, but the former goods shed survives and now contains the Watchet Boat Museum.
A beautifully well-preserved part of our history from a time when our country was arguagbly at its greatest!

Q. Is there a cut off time for leafleting? Can I hand them out at night?

A. Late night leafleting can disturb people. We recommend leafleting between 0900 and 2000. Please be aware that leafleting between 2100-0600 hrs may well be considered a breach of the peace and this is nothing to do with the the content of the leaflets.

You may have heard April is going to be demographic awareness month.

All regions are competing to see how many of PA’s ‘Minority 2066’ leaflets they can get out over the month. There will be a running total on the PA website, and a leadership board.

You are able to take part with your region or as an individual, if you take part by yourself, we will need some proof of your work (such as a picture of the leaflets). An easy way to measure the number of leaflets you are distributing is:

100 leaflets = 0.5 inches
1000 leaflets = 5 inches

There will also be a hall of fame for any activists who is able to deliver 1303 leaflets. If every PA supporter delivered 1303 leaflets, every White household in the UK would receive one.

Also, special recognition will be given for other creative ways of raising awareness.
