Interesting stuff is happening in the community this month, our group chat also managed to pass 400 members milestone. The channel is also nearing 600 and will hit it by next month I guess. Anyway, here some Pixel topic that happening this month:

Google Pixel 2 is 4 years old
October is Google Pixel's birthday and Google Pixel 2 is 4 years old now. It been almost one year since Google abandon the device for updates. Big milestone for you if you have been owning the device since 2017. We also have a post celebrating the Pixel 2 too, with the history behind the device, the features it got and many more.

Android 12 ROM for Pixel 2
Yeah, I know Android 12 is a major change and many people would like to try it out. We could see developers booting it which is cool. It comes with some bugs as expected. There are also a lot of stuff to be polished too before it can get stable release. So is there any Android 12 ROM for Pixel 2? Good news, yes, @reallysnow built ArrowOS for the Pixel 2 XL and what not working is the encryption, also SELinux is permissive for now, hopefully it get fix in the next few updates. Pixel 2 owner can flash Android 12 Beta 3.1 GSI to get experience with Android 12 for now. Hope to see it gets a proper ROM release too one day.

ProtonAOSP is no longer supporting the Pixel 2 series officially.

Anyone is welcome to build unofficial updates for the Pixel 2 series, but as we have updated to Android 12 and the Pixel 2 has reached end-of-life, device support will have to be ported and updated unofficially. Unfortunately, we don't have the time or resources to do so, and we are more interested in focusing on actively-supported devices.

We also lack resources and interest in continuing Android 11-based security updates, which are losing value as vulnerabilities in proprietary code can no longer be fixed.

ProtonAOSP is actively supporting the Pixel 4, 4 XL, 5, and 4a 5G with builds based on Android 12, but the Pixel 2 and 2 XL will no longer receive updates. Thank you for using ProtonAOSP while it lasted!

Try out Android 12 with these custom GSIs on your device

For those who want to use Android 12 but your devices don't have any Android 12 ROM yet, custom GSIs can make your dream come true.

Well yes, you can try out Google's own version of GSI, but it is just a barebone AOSP build so nothing fun with that, and custom GSIs bring all the fun stuff which make it good to use at least. Here some of the Android 12 GSIs you can flash.

@phhusson developed his own custom GSI project, known as Phh-Treble. His GSI builds come with a ton of bug fixes and some useful features. it is vanilla build which don't include Google services. He also even show it can be install on OG Pixel.

Pixel Experience 12 GSI kicked in to add the sprinkle on top of it, developed by @ponces. In his GSI you will find Pixel goodies, the wallpapers, exclusive features, Pixel Launcher and more.

You can flash it on devices that have A/B partitioning which all Google Pixel devices are eligible. You can follow XDA's GSI installation guide to get started on how to install it.
