Multi-user switcher UI got an update in Android 12L
Mishaal Rahman

Android's multi-user switcher has been using the same Material Design since Android 5 till Android 12. In Android 12L, it is getting fresh new UI.

Opening multi-user switcher from the QS panel in Android 12L will show you a brand new UI which is based on Material You design. Same as the Internet and screen recording QS tiles, you will see a popup dialog box instead of showing on the QS panel. There is a small dropdown when tapped from the lock screen.

Google Chrome for Android now supports Android 12's native scrolling screenshot feature
9To5Google

When Android 12 initially released to the stable channel, there is scrolling screenshot baked into the OS. With Google Chrome, the scrolling screenshot feature doesn't seem to work with it, but it is recently fixed.

With Chrome 96 installed, you can now use the native scrolling screenshot feature to take a long screenshot of a webpage. This has been enabled quietly in recent days. 9To5Google said they still manage to get the feature on a Pixel 6 Pro running November update, so it isn't anything related to the December update that is just released.

To use the feature, just take a screenshot and you will see a “Capture more” button, tap on it and you will now be able to select which part of the webpage you want to capture and save or share. It should be available widely for Chrome 96 users on Android 12.

Like to switch wallpaper frequently to change your accent color across the system? Google knows you and they had added such feature in Android 12L. Previously the feature is hidden behind a launcher flag in Developer Preview, but Google has enabled in the Beta 1 build.

With this feature, you can switch between five of your most recent wallpapers directly from your home screen, just tap on any of your preferred wallpaper and it will change in a matter of seconds.

The feature is not exclusive to Pixel Launcher, so you will get it with your native AOSP launcher. (h/t 9To5Google)

Mishaal Rahman said that if the wallpaper changes is done in the background, then the dynamic color theme will only change once you have turn off the screen. This solved the issue of the OS from always extracting color from the wallpaper. No more wallpaper disaster in Android 12L.

Pixel Launcher experimenting with universal search bar
Mishaal Rahman

You might have noticed that Pixel Launcher still come with two type of search bar on Android 12, the one placed at the bottom of the home screen direct you to the Google app and the one placed at the top of the app drawer is the device search feature. Things might be changing over in Android 12L.

Currently, there a flag called ENABLE_ONE_SEARCH in Pixel Launcher, which let you merge both search bar into one universal device search bar. This is definitely a welcome addition as users won't need to open their app drawer and reach to the top to access it.
