Google confirms Pixel 6 Wi-Fi issues, will be resolved in March update
9To5Google

A few Pixel 6 owners who have updated to the February security patch noticed their devices are having issues with the Wi-Fi connectivity, and Google has confirmed the bug existence and will be releasing an update to fix it soon.

A few days ago, Google has released a small update for the Pixel 6 series, but that doesn't seem to fix the Wi-Fi issue as the update only included a few missing changes. Just recently, Google has responded on a Reddit thread stating that they've been able to identify the issue and will be rolling out the fix with the March update.

For those who faced the Wi-Fi issue and want to eagerly get the fix, you can try out Android 12L Beta 3 which most Pixel 6 users find out to be even stable than the Android 12 release.

Google Chat will replace classic Hangouts for Workspace users starting March 22
Google Workspace Updates

Google is preparing to shift even more users to Google Chat who haven't done so.

Starting from March 22, "Chat preferred" switch will be turn on for all Workspace organisations, which mean the default chat application will be Google Chat later on, and no one will be able to opt out of the change The desktop site version hangouts.google.com will continue to be operational, but the mobile apps and Hangouts in Gmail for the web will be disabled.

Organisations which has set to "Chat and classic Hangouts" in the Admin console settings will get the automatic upgrade over to “Chat preferred” in the next three weeks starting March 22, meanwhile "Classic Hangouts" will get it over the course of five weeks starting April 4. It won't affect personal accounts for now, but that will possibly happen later after Google has done migrating Workspace users from Hangout to the new Google Chat experience.

Google Search to gain complete black theme
9To5Google

No matter you hate it or like it, Google is currently testing out a completely black theme on the Search desktop web.

If you're lucky enough to experience it, you will notice how much darker the background is. The text color are also slightly tweaked to better optimise the viewing experience. The complete black theme only appeared in search results, with the homepage continuing to use the dark gray theme instead, meanwhile in the quick panel it still refer it as "Dark theme," with no option to revert back to dark gray for now.

The rollout for the complete black theme of Search is pretty random, it appeared for some users but only for a few times.

LineageOS 18.1 official revive the original Pixel & Pixel XL
Gerrit Review

Earlier we told you guys LineageOS 17.1 has been dropped which includes the Pixel & Pixel XL, and guess what's happening, the first generation Pixel & Pixel XL are revived by the LineageOS team, they are set to get LineageOS 18.1 official soon.

Yeah, I know most people excitement have already shifted to Android 12, or even the Android 13, and Android 11 is more than a year old now. What I want to say is custom ROMs besides giving you the option to use newer Android version, it also extend security update which is a welcome addition, and here's what the team is trying to do for those old Pixels.

The new maintainer for both the devices is @npjohnson, he has fixed IMS bug on Android 11 for Pixel after a year time, and that's the reason why first generation Pixel are stuck on 17.1 official for another year, but anyway here we are, 18.1 official for both Google Pixel & Pixel XL, enjoy if you own it.

Chrome's password manager let you add notes for your password
9To5Google

Google Chrome built-in password manager will soon let you add notes to your saved passwords.

The feature is first spotted by Redditor u/Leopeva64. When editing or adding a saved password in the browser, you will see a new section called "Notes" which let you type in extra information for a specific saved password. It could be a password hint for example in case you forget the actual password.

The new feature is spotted on Chrome Canary version 101, and it's unconfirmed whether the feature will successfully make its way till the stable channel or not, time will tell though.

Pixel 6 that have updated to the newer February patch can't install Android 12L, but another build is coming soon
9To5Google

A week ago, Google released a new small update for the Pixel 6, but a few people that decided to flash the Android 12L Beta 3 later can't successfully install it after that.

Those people who faced the issue had tried to enroll in the beta program and waited 24 hours for the OTA, but still they don't receive it. Some also tried sideloading it but end up failing to do so. After a few days, Google responded that it is due to the February patch being newer than the Android 12L Beta 3 build, hence the reason why you don't receive OTA and can't successfully sideload it.

In the same reply, Google also said there is an "upcoming beta build in March " which will let those Pixel 6 owners to have the chance installing it. By the way, Android 12L is hitting the stable channel soon, as Google planned to do it by the end of Q1 this year, or probably it will be extended to April.

Google Phone is preparing Material You dialpad design
9To5Google

Material You is here to stay no matter you like or hate it, and Google is adding more Material You elements into their Phone app.

Google Phone app has earlier got its Material You redesign last year, and now the dialpad is set to get a redesign too. There is border for each of the button, and tapping on it shows animation which are identical to the Calculator app and Android 12's lock screen. As you have expected, the color will follow the device wallpaper you set on Android 12 & later.

Currently the new dialpad design is hidden in the app, Google haven't started to roll it out yet.
