More leaks about Pixel Tablet
Kamila Wojciechowska

Kamila Wojciechowska has shared more images and information of the Pixel Tablet in black.

We got to know that there's no Pro version of the tablet like we thought, as the original "tangor" with the Tensor G1 chip was canceled in favor of "tangorpro", which is with Tensor G2.

The display is not an OLED panel, but a 2560x1600 LCD CSoT "ppa957db2d" panel with a RT4539 LED driver.

The EVT (engineering validation test) model had 8GB of Samsung LPDDR5 RAM and 256GB Kioxia UFS storage and a PFC side fingerprint reader.

Interestingly, the settings of this tablet has a new tab named "Dock settings" with the sub text being "Dock version and updates" which hints at the dock having firmware updates.

The Pixel Tablet will feature a "Hub mode" section in the Settings
Mishaal Rahman

In preparation of the Pixel Tablet release, Google has added a new category in the settings to configure the tablet's dock in the latest beta of Android 13 QPR2.

So far this menu has controls for the Screen Saver, At a Glance, lock screen and casting with more to come, as it's not yet finished with the Other tab being empty.

Google is experimenting with the Wallpaper & Style UI
Mishaal Rahman & Kamila Wojciechowska

The latest Android 13 beta has brought a new interface to the app letting you customize your device.

Google has split the Lock Screen and Home Screen into two sections where future customization options will be located, like Clock or Lock Screen shortcuts.

It's a bit unfinished, but shows us a glimpse of what we can see in the future.

Lock Screen shortcuts will be customizable in the near future
Mishaal Rahman

Mishaal Rahman has discovered a hidden option in the latest Android 13 Beta. The option is gonna let users customize their lock screens with shortcuts for the flashlight, Do Not Disturb, Device Control and Camera.

The mechanics of the toggles will also be changed from a tap to a tap and hold, similar to what is already on iPhones.

Google releases Bard, a ChatGPT competitor
Google Blog

Google has announced the release of its experimental conversational AI service, Bard, powered by the LaMDA language model.

Bard will combine the knowledge on the web with the power, intelligence and creativity of Google's large language models to provide fresh, high-quality responses.

The response for OpenAI's ChatGPT will be first released with a lightweight model version of LaMDA, which requires less computing power. This will allow them to scale it to more users and receive more feedback.

Bard is open to trusted testers and will be available to the public in the coming weeks.

Android will now show a preview where you will swipe back
XDA Developers

Partially introduced in Android 13, predictive back gestures use machine learning algorithms to predict the user's next move to make navigating more intuitive.

The gestures were only able to show your homescreen on the swipe back, but that's changing on Android 14 DP1 as it can now show a preview of the last task and see if the back gesture will bring you to the home screen or a different app the user was in.

The option is still not enabled by default, you will need to switch it on in the Developer Settings.

Android 14 will not let you install old apps by default

Starting with Android 14, you will not be able to install apps targeting API lower than 22 (Android 5.1) for privacy reasons. Google claims a lot of malware is being built around the lower API's to avoid the runtime permission model that was added in API 23 (Android 6.0).

You'll still be able to install an app by using this ADB command:
adb install --bypass-low-target-sdk-block FILENAME.apk

You can also disable this or change the minimum installable API level with these commands:
device_config put package_manager_service MinInstallableTargetSdk__install_block_enabled [true|false]

device_config put package_manager_service MinInstallableTargetSdk__min_installable_target_sdk [int]
