The aim of the PhD is to develop knowledge that will enable optimization of Cleaning in Place (CIP) processes in the dairy industry. The PhD will investigate the fundamental mechanisms at microscopic and macroscopic scales during cleaning of dairy formulations. Small scale rigs will be used to obtain fundamental understanding of the phenomena. Interactions of dairy materials with equipment surfaces and cleaning material, e.g. swelling, will be investigated using a range of techniques, e.g. microscopy, to obtain relevant kinetics. The potential of using a range of sensors, e.g. spectroscopy, to monitor the process will be explored. We will model the dynamics and cleaning processes aiming to develop on-line optimisation/monitor systems

Area: Applied biostatistics and epidemiology

Applications are invited for a funded PhD position in applied biostatistics and epidemiology at the Department of Community Health and Epidemiology or the Interdisciplinary PhD program at the Dalhousie University, Halifax, Nova Scotia, Canada with a focus on analyzing administrative health data and population survey data. The research is part of a collaboration with Nova Scotia Health.

The PhD student will focus on developing statistical methodology in predictive modeling. The successful applicant should have a MSc degree in statistics, biostatistics, epidemiology or health informatics by July 2022 and be highly interested in health and epidemiological applications. Other requirements include a solid background in programming proficiency in R and excellent oral and written communication skills.
