My research group, The Matter Lab at the University of Toronto is hiring immediately. We are recruiting for the following postdoctoral positions at our lab in the Department of Chemistry at the University of Toronto and the Department of Computer Science, University of Toronto

- *Quantum Algorithms for Chemistry and Materials Science*: I need somebody with either deep experience in developing quantum chemistry methods who wants to learn quantum algorithms or a quantum chemist/physicist interested in developing quantum algorithms for chemistry and ready to delve into quantum chemistry.

- *Quantum chemistry of lanthanide complexes.* I need somebody with experience modelling transition metals or lanthanide complexes using quantum chemistry methods. Experience and knowledge of correlated methods are also strongly preferred. This posting is for an ongoing collaboration with the Materials Discovery Research Institute (MDRI)

- *Computational polymer science.* In Collaboration with P2 Science, Inc. , We are looking for an expert in statistical mechanics, stochastic modelling or related fields to simulate polymerization reactions.

- *Tissue and organism Cryogenics*. I am interested in experimental and theoretical candidates with experience in cryogenics, either its engineering aspects, water simulation with ab initio-derived potentials, or other biological aspects of the problem.

-*Machine Learning for Chemistry* broadly defined.

*Eligibility:* You must be within three years of graduating from your PhD, and this should be your second postdoctoral stay at most.

M.Sc. Position in Plant-Insect Interactions at the University of Colorado Colorado Springs

The Mooney laboratory at the University of Colorado Colorado Springs is recruiting a MSc student interested in plant-insect interactions. The fully funded project will explore the impacts of warming temperatures on the integrated responses of soil microbes, host plants, and the ant-aphid mutualism. This project is in collaboration with Dr. Kate Becklin at Syracuse University and Dr. Christie Bahlai at Kent State University. Fieldwork will take place at the Rocky Mountain Biological Laboratory and the MSc will be completed through the Biology Department at UCCS.

The award covers tuition at UCCS, housing and fees at RMBL, and provides a research assistantship for summers 2025 and 2026. Additional financial support is possible through the academic year if the MSc student takes part as a teaching assistant for introductory biology laboratories at UCCS.

Francesco Marra and I are looking to fill a post doc/post graduate position focusing on Extreme precipitation frequency analysis at the national scale (Italy). The project activities will include:
- Creation of maps of extremes at the national scale from satellite data
- Trend detection and nonstationary design rainfall
- Identification of spatial patterns in rainfall extremes

We are looking for a statistical hydrologist/statistician/atmospheric physicist/climate scientist.
The position, starting in December 2024 or January 2025 requires skills in handling large spatial datasets and scientific programming (Matlab, Python or R).

Good English communication skills are very important. The position duration is 12 months, with a possibility of extension, pending funding availability. Activities will be performed under the supervision of Prof Francesco Marra (Dept. of Geosciences) in close collaboration with Prof Marco Marani (Department of Civil, Environmental, and Architectural Engineering)

The College of Engineering at Michigan State University (MSU) invites applications for multiple tenure-system faculty positions in the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering (CEE) in the areas of environmental engineering, hydrology and water resources, climate change, energy, and sustainability. We encourage applications for appointment at the rank of Assistant Professor and will consider exceptional candidates for appointment at the rank of Associate or (Full) Professor.

Candidates must have an earned PhD in Civil Engineering, Environmental Engineering, or a closely related discipline at the time of appointment, with an anticipated start date of August 16, 2025. Successful candidates will be expected to develop a sustainable, externally funded, and internationally recognized research program; contribute significantly to their discipline through scholarly work; demonstrate effective teaching and mentorship of both undergraduate and graduate students; participate in institutional and professional service; and support the university’s mission in advancing diversity, equity, and inclusion. Candidates are encouraged to explain how their research could enhance and align with the department's strengths. We are looking for strong students to begin a PhD with a focus on the development of novel AI/ML models for hydrological prediction or optimization of water distribution systems. Positions will be fully-funded for four years.

Specific details about the project will be discussed with candidates based on their background and interests. Skills and experience sought for the positions include:
· Strong familiarity and demonstrated experience with PyTorch, TensorFlow, Keras and other similar libraries
· Previous experience with common deep learning architectures (LSTM, Transformers, CNN)
· Probabilistic methods
· Reinforcement learning
· Physics-informed machine learning (would be ideal, but not necessary)

Qualifications include a Masters in the areas of civil engineering, environmental engineering, water resources engineering, or a related field.

We are looking to fill one of the positions immediately; thus, preference will be given to qualified Canadian citizens or Permanent Residents. The other position can be filled as late as Fall 2025, but Spring 2025 is ideal.

The student will work with Dr. William Nardin (wnardin@umces.edu). The Ph.D. student will start preferably in the winter of 2025. The candidate will contribute to a study of oyster integration in coastal infrastructures and wetland design involving modeling, fieldwork, and laboratory experiments.
