We are looking for a Doctoral Researcher (PhD student) in hydrogeology – this time together with the University of Eastern Finland! 🔍

The Doctoral Researcher (PhD student) will be recruited for two consecutive but separate fixed-term employment contracts.

The position starts at the University of Eastern Finland (UEF) and continues at Geological Survey of Finland (GTK).

The Doctoral Researcher will work in a project, which will:
1) systematically investigate the nano-/microplastic transport behaviour and their interactions with different traditional pollutants (metals/metalloids, organic pollutants) by performing laboratory and field experiments, and numerical modelling simulations, and
2) quantify the nano-/microplastic contents in Finnish groundwaters. 💧

The main duty of the Doctoral Researcher (PhD student) is to work towards a doctoral dissertation.

The position will be filled for a fixed term from 1 April 2025 onwards (or starting date as agreed).

Even if you don't receive the MSCA grant, if you are obtaining at least the Seal of Excellence means you can likely secure your fellowship through South Tyrol's funding program.

To help potential applicants get prepared for writing their proposals, we are hosting an online Info Session on 2 April 2025, from 1:30 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. The session will cover the application process, the support we offer, and insights from current MSCA fellows. Interested researchers can register here.

Who should apply:
We are looking for promising PhD holders interested in applying with Eurac Research. Suitable candidates should:
Have no more than 8 years of research experience after their PhD
Have not lived in Italy for more than 12 months in the last 3 years (before the submission deadline: 10 September 2025)
Be interested in submitting a proposal in a field that aligns with the expertise of our Institutes/Centers.

We provide comprehensive training and support to help applicants develop a winning MSCA Postdoctoral Fellowship proposal.
