Dr. Te Pei's Intelligent Geohazards Modeling Research Group at The City College of New York (CCNY) is seeking highly motivated candidates for full-time Ph.D. positions starting in Spring 2025 and Fall 2025. QuakeCoRE Disciplinary Theme 5 PhD Projects – Indigeneity and Resilience – Call for PhD Candidates

QuakeCoRE/Te Hirangu Rū, Aotearoa New Zealand’s Centre for Earthquake Resilience research, welcomes expressions of interest from potential PhD candidates. Funded projects will commence in 2025. Research topics can address communities within Aotearoa New Zealand, across the Pacific and around the Pacific Rim, and both geophysical and meteorological/climatological hazards.

I am hiring multiple #PhD students in Florida International University - Civil and Environmental Engineering. One position will be primarily based in FIU's Department of Earth and Environment. These are fully funded positions starting as early as Spring 2025 and the students will work with a cross-disciplinary group of engineers and scientists from FIU Institute of Environment and FIU School of Computing and Information Sciences. The research projects will focus on areas including, but not limited to, #watershed modeling and both emerging and traditional pollutants in #stormwater (such as #microplastics, #sediments, and #nutrients) from #urban and #coastal watersheds. Projects will also explore #flood and #pollution mitigation strategies using gray and green stormwater #infrastructure.

Doctoral student (m/f/d) in the field of Water Balance and Microclimate in Agroforestry Systems

The candidate will receive a scholarship of 1,200 € per month with an additional 150 € per month for material and travel expenses over a standard funding period of 3 years funded by the Faculty 09 - Agricultural Sciences, Nutritional Sciences, and Environmental Management. The candidate will join the Chair of Land Use Systems with focus on Agroforestry, Department of Landscape Ecology and Resources Management and will work in close collaboration with the externally funded DFG Research Unit 5664 "Agroforestry for sustainable multifunctional agriculture (FORMULA)".
FORMULA is part of a cooperation between Justus Liebig University Giessen and the Centre for Agricultural Landscape Research (ZALF) in Muencheberg. The research unit investigates topics of soil carbon storage and trace gas emissions, water and nutrient fluxes, species diversity and functional biodiversity, agronomy, resource efficiency and crop stress in two alley cropping systems in Hesse and Brandenburg. The research focusses on the interactions along gradients between trees and crops.
Your tasks at a glance
• Implementation and maintenance of cosmic-ray neutron sensing equipment to understand field-scale impacts of agroforestry on soil moisture and water availability, mainly at the study site at Gladbacherhof (Hesse)
• Supervision and maintenance of a microclimate sensor networks at the agroforestry test sites at Gladbacherhof (Hesse).
• Analysis of large and complex datasets.
• Close cooperation with work on water and nutrient fluxes in FORMULA.
• Publication and presentation of project results in peer-reviewed international journals, at conferences and to the public.
Your qualifications and competences
• Completed scientific university degree in environmental sciences, agricultural sciences, ecology, geosciences or a related degree programme.
• Creativity and interest in developing and implementing your own scientific approaches.
• Strong technical and analytical skills in field experiments. Ability to organise work processes.
• Willingness to work in the field for extended periods.
• Ability to work in a team, communication skills and a very good command of written and spoken English
• Willingness and ability to supervise students, e.g., in the context of BSc or MSc theses.
• You hold a class B driving licence.

- Coordinate and support the implementation of a multi-tier, integrated soil monitoring system addressing all soil health denoscriptors defined by the Soil Monitoring Law.
Integrating diverse data flows such as those coming from in-situ monitoring systems, current and future earth SENTINEL, citizen science and modelling.
- Support the establishment of a digital soil health data portal that will be compatible with the EU Data Strategy and the EU data spaces
- Builds on and upgrade the existing elements of the EU Soil Observatory.
