Syrian Druze Take To The Streets Of Suwayda In Protest Against Israeli, Turkish Occupation
Protests erupted in response to the Israeli prime minister's demand that southern Syria be 'demilitarized' and his claim that Israel must 'protect' the country's Druze minority
Hundreds of residents of the Syrian city of Suwayda and its countryside joined protests against any foreign intervention or attempts to divide the country in response to recent comments by Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu demanding the demilitarization of southern Syria, Hawar News Agency reported on 25 February.
Protestors in the Druze majority city emphasized “the importance of unity to confront foreign attempts aimed at occupying Syrian lands, primarily the Turkish and Israeli occupations.”
Protestors chanted the slogan, “From Suwayda to Qamishlo, and from Deraa to Idlib ... Syria belongs to the Syrians, and it is not the property of any alliance or mandate.”
They emphasized that Syria's Sunni, Christian, Druze, and Kurdish communities “are united by a single history and an indivisible identity represented by citizenship on the geography of the country.”
Participants directed sharp criticisms at the Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, and Netanyahu, whose forces occupy Syrian land, saying that they "are not guardians of the Syrians."

Over 12,000 have been displaced from Tulkarem Camp as health and education services remain at a standstill
Essential services in the occupied West Bank’s Tulkarem Refugee Camp have been at a complete halt as a result of Israel’s violent and “unprecedented” campaign of destruction against the city, which comes as part of a widescale operation also targeting other cities in the territory.
“Education is still suspended, and thus 2,000 male and female students studying in the four UNRWA schools in the camp have been deprived of education for more than a month in addition to the suspension of health services for the camp residents,” the head of the Popular Committee in Tulkarem Camp, Faisal Salama, said on 25 February.
Salama added that all medical services in the camp remain frozen due to the Israeli siege. He also said the destruction of infrastructure in Tulkarem Camp is “unprecedented.”
Israel’s brutal attack on Tulkarem has now entered its 30th day. Over 12,000 people have been expelled from their homes, scattering across the city and neighboring villages to find shelter.
More than 40 buildings have been totally decimated in Tulkarem, while hundreds of shops have been damaged or destroyed.
Israeli occupation forces have also been waging an assault on the city of Jenin and its refugee camp, which has been ongoing for 36 days.
“The number of displaced people from the Jenin Camp has reached 20,000, and about 430 homes have been completely or partially destroyed, 2000 students have been deprived of attending their schools, and about 178 people from the city and the camp have been detained since the beginning of the aggression,” reported WAFA news agency.
According to Israel's Channel 12, the occupation forces are looking to construct roads in the West Bank, replicating the infamous Netzarim corridor in Gaza, aimed at preventing resistance fighters from planting explosives and providing faster routes for occupation forces.

House Passes Budget Resolution That Will Increase Military Spending By $100 Billion
Rep. Massie was the only Republican to vote against the budget plan, which has been backed by President Trump
House Republicans on Tuesday passed a budget blueprint that would raise military spending by $100 billion , a plan backed by President Trump despite his suggestions that Pentagon spending could be cut.
The budget plan also extends $4.5 trillion in tax cuts, would add $3 trillion to the deficit, and raise the debt ceiling by $4 trillion. It passed along party lines in a vote of 217-215 , with Rep. Thomas Massie (R-KY) being the only Republican to vote against it.
Explaining his opposition, Massie cited the increases in the deficit . “If the Republican budget passes, the deficit gets worse, not better,” he wrote on X a day before the vote.
The Senate recently passed its own budget resolution that would increase military spending by $150 billion, but it didn’t include the tax cuts. Trump has said he wants the budget plan and tax cuts to be put together in “one big beautiful bill,” backing the House’s version.
Rep. Mike Rogers (R-AL), chair of the House Armed Services Committee, said the extra $100 billion in military spending could be used to secure the southern border, among other things.

Lavrov Praises Trade With Iran, Condemns 'illegal' US Sanctions During Tehran Visit
Russia’s foreign minister discussed regional developments with Iran’s top diplomat including the situation in Syria and the nuclear issue with Washington
Russia’s Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov visited Tehran on 25 February and discussed several issues with his Iranian counterpart, including economic ties, US sanctions, and developments in West Asia.
During a press conference with Lavrov, Iran’s Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi stressed Tehran’s unwillingness to “negotiate under pressures, threats and sanctions.”
“Direct negotiations between us and the US will be impossible as long as maximum pressure is in place,” he said, referring to US President Donald Trump’s renewed campaign of harsh sanctions against the Islamic Republic.
Regarding trade between Tehran and Moscow, Lavrov said during the conference, “Despite the well-known illegal sanctions restrictions, our trade demonstrates positive dynamics,” adding that “last year trade turnover grew by more than 13 percent. There is every reason to suppose that this trend will persist.”
Lavrov also said he expected the quick implementation of a free trade agreement signed in 2023 between Iran and Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU), an alliance made up of Russia, Kazakhstan, Belarus, and Armenia.

Israel deployed the tanks to the Jenin Refugee camp as part of a month-long military campaign that has killed dozens and displaced tens of thousands of Palestinians
Israeli tanks entered the Jenin refugee camp in the occupied West Bank on 23 February for the first time since the Second Intifada in 2002, WAFA news agency reported.
Israeli forces isolated homes in the western part of the camp yesterday by surrounding them with barbed wire after forcing the residents to evacuate.
The Israeli army has also been raiding towns around Jenin, including Silat al-Harithiya and Qabatiya.
Local sources told WAFA that Israeli forces stormed Silat al-Harithiya and took up positions in several streets, forcing shop owners to close their shops.
Israeli forces imposed a curfew, bulldozed streets, and destroyed infrastructure in Qabatiya, WAFA added.
