Spanish courts have launched a criminal investigation against accused CIA contractor David Morales for forging official documents. Morales created the documents in an alleged attempt to justify bugging Julian Assange's meetings with his lawyers and doctors. Forensics reports and officials confirm that the evidence was fabricated.
This is the second time Morales has been allegedly caught forging emails and documents from Ecuadorian Ambassador Carlos Abad. Abad mocked Morales' earlier forgery: "in 27 years I had never seen something so poorly done; even amateur hackers are better at phishing."

3/13 — CATO: Trump Treasury Expands Financial Surveillance
More than one million Americans are about to face a new level of financial surveillance. The Department of the Treasury’s Financial Crimes Enforcement Network (FinCEN) announced that the threshold for currency transaction reports has been lowered from $10,000 to $200 for Americans living in 30 zip codes in California and Texas. Financial surveillance in the United States has long needed reform, but this move is in the wrong direction.
FinCEN officially announced the temporary policy change as an effort “to further combat the illicit activities and money laundering of Mexico-based cartels and other criminal actors along the southwest border of the United States.” Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent said, “As part of a whole-of-government approach to combatting the threat, [the] Treasury remains focused on leveraging all our available tools and authorities to better identify and counter these criminal activities.”
While this announcement is disappointing, it is not surprising. Alex Nowrasteh, the Cato Institute’s vice president for economic and social policy studies, warned people in February that President Trump’s decision to designate cartels as terrorists could have repercussions for civil liberties and the economy at large. Specifically, Nowrasteh noted that the designation would allow the government to freeze assets, enact secondary sanctions, and take greater control of the financial system generally.
What makes this announcement especially troubling is that the $10,000 threshold for currency transaction reports is long overdue for reform. At the very least, many people agree that the amount should be adjusted for inflation. Whether you base that adjustment off the reporting done under the Trading with the Enemy Act in 1945, the enactment of the Bank Secrecy Act in 1970, or the Treasury’s currency transaction report regulation in 1972, it’s clear that this reporting regime has gotten out of hand (Figure 1).
Yet, instead, we are seeing a drastic increase in financial surveillance, making the problem even worse.
Whether it’s the mob or the cartel, organized crime is not an easy thing to deal with. However, this challenge does not mean Americans should have their rights stripped away in the pursuit of justice. As Fight for the Future warned Congress in 2023, “Should [criminals] successfully tempt the United States to abandon the human right to privacy and the U.S. Constitution, everyone will lose.” That was true when the Biden administration tried to surveil bank accounts with just $600 in activity, and that is true now that the Trump administration is surveilling as little as $200 in activity.

Video shows the bodies of Alawites dumped in the orchards of the village of Bsmaqa in Tartous countryside, filmed 12 March 2025, according to the Syrian Coast Observatory.
According to the man filming the video and other eyewitnesses, the HTS-led General Security forces are responsible for the massacres—a security checkpoint was established at the Dreikish junction in Bsamaqa, but they did not answer calls for help. They also detained the young man Mohammad Melhem from the village of Ain Baluj. His body was later found on 12 March.

US, Israel Discusses Expulsion Of Palestinians With East African Governments
The talks are part of the plan for ethnically cleansing Gaza.
According to the Associated Press , Washington and Tel Aviv have engaged in talks with three African governments on taking in Palestinians after their removal from Gaza. President Donald Trump has called for the removal of Palestinians from Gaza.
“The contacts with Sudan, Somalia, and the breakaway region of Somalia known as Somaliland reflect the determination by the US and Israel to press ahead with a plan” to permanently remove Gazans from the Strip, the AP reported on Friday after discussions with Israeli and US officials.
Somalia and Somaliland denied the report. Abdirahman Dahir Adan, Somaliland’s Foreign Minister said, “I haven’t received such a proposal, and there are no talks with anyone regarding Palestinians.” Sudan told the AP it had rejected the US and Israeli proposal.
The AP said Trump was offering Somailand recognition of its independence in exchange for taking in Palestinians.
Trump has said that he wants to “clean out” and “take over” Gaza in order to create the “Riviera of the Middle East.” The president explained that the proposal would call for the permanent removal and resettlement of the Palestinians.

One of President Donald Trump's Day 1 executive orders designated "certain international cartels" as "foreign terrorist organizations," a classification that according to the State Department "play[s] a critical role in our fight against terrorism and [is] an effective means of curtailing support for terrorist activities and pressuring groups to get out of the terrorism business."
To that end, the U.S. Department of the Treasury's Financial Crimes Enforcement Network (FinCEN) announced a new rule cracking down on cash transactions this week, but only in certain geographical regions. No matter the administration's intent to target cartels, the rule will expand government surveillance of its citizens.
FinCEN "issued a Geographic Targeting Order (GTO) to further combat the illicit activities and money laundering of Mexico-based cartels and other criminal actors along the southwest border of the United States," according to the announcement . "The GTO requires all money services businesses (MSBs) located in 30 ZIP codes across California and Texas near the southwest border to file Currency Transaction Reports (CTRs) with FinCEN at a $200 threshold, in connection with cash transactions."
Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent said the change "underscores our deep concern with the significant risk to the U.S. financial system of the cartels, drug traffickers, and other criminal actors along the Southwest border."
The order lists all 30 ZIP codes in counties that each abut the U.S.–Mexico border.... California's are the state's only two border counties, but the five in Texas encompass only a small portion of the state's total southern border. It's not clear why these seven counties were chosen out of the 44 total border counties, including any in Arizona or New Mexico.
... in those seven border counties, FinCEN has dropped the reporting threshold from $10,000 to $200....meaning a $200 cash withdrawal in one of seven counties could soon make one subject to a federal financial report.
"More than one million Americans are about to face a new level of financial surveillance," writes Nicholas Anthony, a policy analyst at the Cato Institute. "Financial surveillance in the United States has long needed reform, but this move is in the wrong direction."
Anthony says rather than lowering the threshold, the $10,000 baseline is overdue to be raised....
The Trump administration's push to crack down on penny-ante cash transactions is reminiscent of actions the Biden administration attempted.
In a 2021 bill ostensibly passed to provide relief from the COVID-19 pandemic, the Biden administration included a provision that would require gig economy companies like Uber, eBay, and Etsy to report anyone to the IRS who earned at least $600 per year on their platform—a dramatic cut from the previous minimum of $20,000 per year or 200 transactions.
..Clearly, the Trump administration is adamant that drug cartels south of the border should be brought to heel—hence the repeated calls by Republicans over the past few years for the U.S. to invade or bomb Mexico. But just as those methods would be an aggressive overreach of U.S. foreign policy, subjecting innumerable law-abiding citizens to additional financial surveillance is an aggressive overreach of fiscal policy.
