❗️US teen detained by Israel for 8 months as US Congress demands action
16-year-old Mohammed Zaher Ibrahim, a Palestinian-American from Florida, has been held in Israeli military detention in the occupied West Bank for eight months without trial.
He was taken during an Israeli military raid on his family home in Ramallah in February and charged with throwing rocks at Israeli vehicles, charges he denies.
Despite a recent ceasefire and release deals for nearly 2,000 prisoners, Mohammed remains behind bars. His family says he has lost a quarter of his body weight and they are unable to confirm his condition. But pressure is mounting: 27 US lawmakers have written to the Trump administration demanding updates and calling for his release.
Mohammed is the only American child currently in Israel’s military prison system among 360 other Palestinian children, according to children’s rights groups. His mother, Mona, continues to plead: “If you were the president of the United States and you see an American citizen imprisoned in an Israeli jail known for torture and starvation, what would you do?” Mona said. “Would you leave him for eight months to suffer and do nothing about it?”

The Israeli army held large-scale military drills along the northern border this week, simulating what it described as an “October 7-style” operation by Hezbollah.
Over 30 hours of exercises tested Israel’s response to a coordinated infiltration from Lebanon by air, land, and sea, targeting settlements and outposts in the occupied Galilee.
Senior officers admitted that several battalions “severely” failed their missions, exposing persistent weaknesses despite Israel’s deployment of new outposts inside southern Lebanon.

❗️UNRWA says 61 million tons of debris blanket Gaza after two years of Israeli war
The UN agency for Palestinian refugees (UNRWA) said on Thursday that more than 61 million tons of debris now cover Gaza after over two years of Israeli bombardment.
“Entire neighbourhoods have been erased, and families search the ruins for water, for shelter,” the agency wrote on X, adding that it continues its humanitarian operations despite the ongoing Israeli blockade and restrictions on aid delivery.
UNRWA chief Philippe Lazzarini said the agency has enough medicine, essential goods, and food supplies to sustain Gaza’s population for three months.

⭕️ Egypt’s gas imports from Israel fall, LNG imports surge to record levels
Egypt’s imports of Israeli gas fell by 12.3% in August 2025, dropping by 96 million cubic meters to 687 million cubic meters (782 mcf/d), compared to 783 million cubic meters in July.
This marks the second-lowest monthly level this year after June, when imports fell sharply due to the 12-day war between Iran and Israel.
Cumulatively, Egypt’s gas imports declined to 6.16 bcm between January and August 2025, down from 6.7 bcm over the same period in 2024. Further declines are expected in October due to a planned 12-day shutdown of Israel’s Tamar field for maintenance.
In parallel, Egypt has ramped up LNG imports to record levels, reaching 2.511 bcm in August, a 26.5% monthly increase. Total LNG imports rose to 5.71 million tons between January and September 2025, compared to 1.42 million tons a year earlier.
August recorded an all-time high of 1.27 million tons of LNG imports, followed by 1.04 million tons in September. The surge comes as Egypt expanded its regasification capacity to 2.77 bcf/d after adding a fourth floating unit in Damietta.

Russia is preparing to ship roughly 750,000 barrels, equivalent to 100,000 metric tons, of a blend of Arctic heavy ARCO crude and gas condensate, a light oil variety, to Syria’s Baniyas port, according to traders and LSEG data.
Russian and Syrian representatives held talks in Moscow in October to explore possible energy cooperation.
LSEG data indicates that the tanker Antarktika, an Aframax-class vessel capable of carrying about 700,000 to 800,000 barrels, is currently anchored near Banias after loading oil and condensate from areas near Russia’s Murmansk and Ust-Luga ports.

Israel has violated the Gaza ceasefire agreement dozens of times since Trump made the comments to TIME magazine
US President Donald Trump recounted telling Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu that he “had to accept” the ceasefire in Gaza, warning the Israeli premier that “the world is against you.”
Trump made the comments in an interview with TIME, carried out on 15 October and released this week.
The US president reveals in the interview how he called Netanyahu on 4 October to “deliver a message: The war in Gaza was over.”
“Bibi, you can’t fight the world,” Trump recounted telling Netanyahu. “You can fight individual battles, but the world is against you.”
“He had to stop because the world was going to stop him. You know, I could see what was happening. You could see what was happening. And Israel was becoming very unpopular. And that's what I meant when I said ‘the world.’ There are a lot of powers out there, okay, powers outside of the region. And anyway, he did the right thing,” Trump added.
According to the TIME interview, Netanyahu “pushed back,” but Trump “wasn’t having it.”
Trump went “into a profanity-laced monologue” about all he had done for Israel, including “moving the US embassy to Jerusalem, recognizing its sovereignty over the Golan Heights, brokering the Abraham Accords that normalized relations between Israel and several Arab states, even joining Israel’s strikes on Iran in June.”
Trump said he “could no longer stand with Netanyahu” if he “didn’t sign onto the pact.” According to the president, the deal was reached by the end of the phone call.
All of Israel’s living captives have been released in exchange for nearly 2,000 Palestinian prisoners, as part of the agreement.
...The president also said “we're very close” to a Saudi–Israeli normalization agreement. Riyadh continues to publicly insist on a viable pathway toward a two-state solution in exchange for any normalization, which Tel Aviv has refused.
Israel has not only categorically rejected the idea, but has worked to destroy any path to a Palestinian state by rapid illegal settlement expansion and acceleration of plans to annex the occupied West Bank.

Alex Acosta, Who Negotiated the ‘Sweetheart Plea Deal’ With Jeffrey Epstein in 2008, cleared Trump of wrongdoing in the Epstein case, GOP says
The former U.S. attorney and Labor Secretary sat for an interview with Congressional investigators in September.
Republicans on the House Oversight and Government Reform Committee took a victory lap Friday after releasing a trannoscript of their recent interview with former U.S. attorney Alex Acosta regarding Jeffrey Epstein, saying it provides evidence President Donald Trump was not involved in the case against the late convicted sex offender.
“Acosta NEVER talked to Trump about Epstein,” the Republican majority of the Oversight Committee said in a post on X, attaching a screenshot of Acosta’s interview from September. “Not in person. Not on the phone. Not over email.”...
Oversight Democrats, however, had a starkly different takeaway from Acosta’s interview, with Sara Guerrero, a Democratic spokesperson, arguing his remarks suggested a lack of contrition for his part in the case.
“The trannoscripts of Alex Acosta’s interview confirm what we’ve known all along: he has no remorse for his mishandling of the Epstein case,” Guerrero said in a statement. “Because of the deal Alex Acosta gave Epstein, he was able to continue assaulting and raping young women and girls for another decade. No matter how House Republicans try to spin this, Oversight Democrats will keep pushing for the truth.”
Acosta, in his capacity as U.S. attorney, oversaw the deal between the federal government and Epstein that many have argued allowed the financier to continue to victimize women for years. Acosta resigned from his post as Labor Secretary in the first Trump administration amid renewed scrutiny of the Epstein case. He told Congressional investigators last month that the decision to resign was his choice and not by the urging of the White House.
The panel has been probing the Epstein case for months, after a subcommittee in July compelled the full committee chair, Rep. James Comer (R-Ky.), to subpoena the Justice Department for documents.
Epstein’s estate has also turned over materials to Congressional investigators, including a so-called birthday book that included a note allegedly written by Trump for Epstein.
Trump has denied his connection to the note and sued the Wall Street Journal, which was the first to report on its existence. Democrats continue to suggest Trump is trying to hide his longtime relationship with Epstein.

New Poll Shows 60 Percent Of US Citizens Back Recognition Of Palestine
Despite supporting Israel’s genocide in Gaza for two years, US officials are now making harsh public criticisms of Tel Aviv’s West Bank annexation plans
A majority of citizens in the US believe that Washington should recognize Palestinian statehood, according to a new poll carried out by Reuters and Ipsos.
This includes 80 percent of Democrats and 41 percent of Republicans. In total, 59 percent support the recognition of Palestine.
Around 60 percent of the respondents said Israeli actions in Gaza were excessive. Thirty-two percent disagreed.
Approximately 51 percent believe US President Donald Trump deserves “significant credit” for his ceasefire plan in Gaza if it works.
“While only one in 20 Democrats approve of Trump's overall performance as president, one in four said he should get significant credit if the peace holds,” Reuters wrote.

Recent reports indicate concerns within the US government that Tel Aviv may be looking to torpedo the Gaza agreement
Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan called on the US to put more pressure on Israel to abide by the ceasefire in Gaza, while proposing the idea of sanctions or an arms embargo on Tel Aviv.
Erdogan made the comments on a return flight from Oman. According to an official readout, the Turkish president said Hamas was abiding by the deal.
“As Turkiye, we are doing our utmost for the ceasefire to be secured. The Hamas side is abiding by the ceasefire. In fact, it is openly stating its commitment to this. Israel, meanwhile, is continuing to violate the ceasefire,” the president told reporters.
“The international community, namely the US, must do more to ensure Israel’s full compliance with the ceasefire and agreement. Israel must be forced to keep its promises via sanctions, or halting of arms sales,” Erdogan added.
Ankara has been highly vocal about the Israeli genocide in Gaza. However, Turkiye has secretly maintained trade ties with Israel despite a ban announced by the country last year.

According to the military, Israel's 91st Division—the "Galilee Division" responsible for engaging in war on Lebanon—has completed the largest exercise since the beginning of the genocide in Gaza, aimed at enhancing operational readiness for military offensives along the border with Lebanon by way of air, sea, and land.
Israel has claimed these exercises are being conducted in order to prepare for a "range of scenarios" and includes reserve troops mobilization and force buildup.
The official statements come after increased attacks on Lebanese territory, which includes numerous southern Lebanese villages and the Bekaa Valley that have recently resulted in the killing of 6 Lebanese citizens, and the injury of dozens.
