Today, the Lebanese Arab journalist Talal Salman passed away at age 85. The founder of Al-Safir newspaper, which hosted Naji Al-Ali, Talal was one of the Arab world's most prominent journalists. Weaving Arabism, Palestine, and resistance in his lifelong work, his legacy leaves an indelible mark on the history and consciousness of the region.

Our time begins with Palestine and extends with Palestine from the past to the future that Palestine will shape with its position within us and our position from it.
For Arabism is Palestine. Nationalism is Palestine. Religion is Palestine. The cause is Palestine, and the Nation is Palestine.
If Palestine is, then so are we, through it.
When Palestine is present, history is fully present.
If Palestine is absent or made absent, we all become absent from the future.
From the lowest point on earth to the farthest Arab land, there is no freedom without Palestine, no progress without Palestine, no independence without Palestine, no unity without Palestine, no Arabism without Palestine, and no Arabs.
Victory is in Palestine. Defeat is in the assassination of Palestine by disfiguration, diminishment, and fragmentation.
From before the time of Sykes-Picot: the target is Palestine!
From before the time of the Balfour Declaration: the target is Palestine!
From before the first zionist congress in Basel: the target is Palestine!
Palestine is the people, all peoples.
Palestine is the land, all the land.
Palestine before 1948 and the Nakba. Palestine after 1967 and the defeat. Palestine after the anticipated victory in 1973. Palestine before the civil war in Jordan and after the civil war in Lebanon.
Palestine's body is now scattered across the map of the whole world; distinguished talents and energies, scholars and university graduates, engineering firms and builders, refugee camps where refugees, displaced persons, and holders of other nationalities and stateless entities are distributed. They sell them passports so they do not die at airports or in tents erected on the dividing line between two states created so that Palestine would not exist.
In the east is Palestine, in the south is Palestine, in the north is Palestine, in the west is Palestine. The cause of the entire Nation. It is the cause of all the peoples: and yet no Palestine within us.
Strength is Palestine. Fortitude is Palestine. Unity is Palestine. Freedom is Palestine: and yet no Palestine within us!
When Palestine is present, the Nation is present. If Palestine is absent, there is no Nation and no identity for hundreds of millions counted as Arabs, and no future for them all.
