Collapse of the Healthcare System in the Gaza Strip

On the nineteenth day of the genocide war and after 18 days of the world's failure to compel the occupation to respect the laws of war, international, and humanitarian law, the already crumbling healthcare system in the Gaza Strip—as a result of 17 years of continuous and exhausting siege—has collapsed. The declaration of the healthcare system's collapse is attributed to several factors:

1. Exhaustion of bed capacity: The bed capacity has exceeded 150% of its capacity, despite hospital administrations adding new beds during the aggression in tents and corridors, but without sufficient medical equipment. For example: the need for intensive care beds has increased by over 350% so far, and 190% for surgical beds, in addition to hundreds of critical injuries requiring long-term medical treatment and care that is unavailable.

2. Human medical staff: The current medical staff does not exceed 30% of the current need. The occupation has killed more than 60 doctors, paramedics, and nurses, and injured over 110 with various injuries. Most of these healthcare workers have themselves suffered losses, with some losing their homes, or having themselves some or all of their family members martyred or injured. Most of them have become displaced in shelters or with relatives and friends in areas they consider less dangerous. 

3. Stoppage of medical supplies: After 18 days of the stopping the entry of essential medical supplies from entering, especially bone fixatives, anesthetics, disinfectants, and antibiotics, amidst the increasing direct targeting of more than 22,000 martyrs and wounded, in addition to hundreds of daily medical cases, especially cancer patients and kidney dialysis patients.

4. Electricity outage and fuel blockade: Following the occupation's cutting off of electricity and preventing fuel from entering the only power station in Gaza, as well as prohibiting the entry of fuel for hospital generators, these generators have become worn out because they were designed to operate for limited hours during power outages, not for continuous weeks without interruption.

5. Transportation halt: Given the targeting of streets and intersections and the prevention of fuel entry for vehicles, transportation has almost come to a complete halt. This has resulted in the medical teams, and even the bodies of martyrs and the injured, being unable to reach hospitals, along with the direct targeting of 25 ambulances, rendering them out of service.

6. Direct threat to hospitals: The occupation threatens hospitals with direct targeting and daily bombarding of their surroundings, in addition to the direct bombarding of the Al-Maamadani Hospital, the destruction of the International Eye Hospital, the targeting of the Martyr Mohammed Al-Durrah Children's Hospital with white phosphorus, and the targeting of hospitals in Beit Hanoun, Al-Wafa [Hospital] for the Elderly, Al-Karama, and others, totaling 15 hospitals out of service. Furthermore, 32 primary healthcare centers have been put out of service.

7. Conversion of hospitals into shelters: Approximately a quarter of a million citizens have sought refuge in the courtyards, corridors, and halls of hospitals in search of safety. However, these hospitals are not equipped to accommodate such a large number of citizens, lacking the minimum capacity to provide drinking water, toilets, cleanliness, and sanitization, turning them into hotspots for the spread of infectious diseases.

In light of these crimes, and the occupation's violation of international law and humanitarian values, the world is called upon to take urgent action:

• The world must fulfill its responsibilities to end the brutal occupation and halt the barbaric aggression against our people.
• Immediate support to the healthcare sector, with medical personnel, medicine, medical equipment, ambulances, and field hospitals. Pressure must be exerted on all parties to provide what is necessary for the healthcare system.

In a new massacre, the US-funded IOF directly targeted the home of Dr. Kamal Khattab, the director of the Mohammed Al-Durrah Children's hospital.

His wife and all of his children were martyred, while Dr. Kamal is wounded. Al-Durrah Hospital is one of over 20 that received bombing threats from the IOF, and Dr. Kamal refused to evacuate the hospital in order to service the sick, wounded, and displaced.

The statements and positions of the British government are nothing but an extension of its original crime that caused the Nakba of our people and led to the displacement of millions of Palestinians, insisting on completing the annihilation of our people, displacing those who remain and erasing them from existence.

The statements and positions of the British government are filled with colonial resentment and hatred towards our people, supporting, encouraging, and even pressuring for the annihilation of the Palestinians, through its persistence and insistence on opposing any positions calling for stopping the aggression and genocide.

The Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine reminds the British government that our people and the Arab nation have not forgotten Britain's primary role in our displacement in 1948, granting our land to the zionist invaders, and manufacturing our historical tragedy. The current British stance should be held accountable, not just condemned and denounced. The Front calls on the masses of the Arab nation, freedom fighters of the world, and supporters of the Palestinian people to respond appropriately to such a brutal and aggressive stance.

The Front urges the Arab masses, forces supporting Palestinian rights, and all anti-colonial powers, to escalate their resistance against Britain, its interests, its embassies, and its military bases. This feeble specter cannot imagine that its way of regaining its reputation as an open colonial empire comes at the expense of the rights and blood of our people.

The targeting of the house and family of the journalist from Al-Jazeera channel, Wael Al-Dahdouh, is an extension of all the occupation's crimes and its war on journalism.

This crime is an attempt through military force to deter journalists and dissuade them from conveying the reality and revealing the truth. This crime demonstrates the level of zionist terror and the occupation's breach of all norms, violating all laws with the blatant American and Western support for the occupation.

We express our condolences and sympathy to the journalist Wael Al-Dahdouh and fully stand in solidarity with him and his family.

We condemn the occupation's targeting of journalists and the family of the Palestinian journalist Wael Al-Dahdouh, and we call for the accountability of the occupation's leaders for their crimes, fascism, and terrorism.

The occupation and its fascist, criminal army continue to target Palestinian journalists in an attempt to terrorize them and deter them from conveying the truth and covering its heinous crimes against humanity.

The brutality of the occupation against the knights of word and image has claimed the lives of approximately 23 journalists since the beginning of the fascist aggression against our people in the Gaza Strip. The latest of these crimes was the targeting of the family of the Palestinian journalist Wael Al-Dahdouh, resulting in the martyrdom of his wife, son, and daughter, in addition to several wounded who are still under the rubble as of now.

In the face of the occupation's heinous crimes against journalists and their families, and the gruesome massacres against civilians, children, and women, we extend our deepest condolences to journalist Wael Al-Dahdouh and his family, all families of the martyred journalists, and the steadfast and stationed families of our Palestinian people.

We call on international media, human rights organizations, and institutions to condemn the occupation's targeting of journalists and media outlets that are punished for revealing the truth and exposing the criminal and sadistic nature of the occupation, which has surpassed all imagination.
