The horrifying scenes of the new mass grave discovered today in one of the courtyards of the Al-Shifa Medical Complex, containing a number of decomposed bodies of martyrs, which the occupation buried under the soil using its military bulldozers before withdrawing from the Complex, confirm once again that there are no limits to this despicable zionist fascism, which continues in its practices, exploiting the disgraceful international silence about terrible violations of international law, and a fully-fledged genocide war waged by the occupation government and its terrorist army against our people in the Gaza Strip.

This unending series of atrocities, which are discovered in and around Al-Shifa Medical Complex, from mass graves and signs of executions to hundreds of bodies still under the rubble, and the massive destruction that has affected the Complex and its departments, is now before the international community and its political, humanitarian, and judicial institutions, spearheaded by the International Court of Justice and the International Criminal Court, as described and documented war crimes, and these institutions are required to activate their role by immediately holding the leaders of this rogue entity accountable.

Northern areas of the Gaza Strip are facing an unprecedented health and environmental crisis, threatening serious health and environmental consequences for over 700,000 residents amid accumulating mountains of waste, hundreds of temporary mass graves, and rubble from various areas. Over 75,000 tons of waste are scattered, while hundreds of thousands of tons of rubble and debris from homes destroyed by the occupation are also present.

This waste has led to the spread of infectious diseases among thousands of citizens, including hepatitis and skin diseases, and has become a fertile environment for the proliferation of flies, mosquitoes, insects, and harmful reptiles. The environmental impact is exacerbated by citizens setting fire to it, causing harmful smoke pollution.

The piles of rubble and debris from homes, containing the decomposed bodies of thousands of martyrs, represent a serious health and environmental crisis as odors emanate from them, subjecting them to disturbance by animals and stray dogs, increasing the transmission of diseases and infections, and compromising the human dignity of these martyrs who have not been buried properly.

Adding to this catastrophic scene is the spread of hundreds of temporary mass graves, where citizens have been forced to bury their martyrs due to the inaccessibility of the Eastern Cemetery. These graves are spread across squares, what remains of parks and gardens, and within private lands of citizens, all lacking environmental safety conditions. Occasionally, mass graves from massacres committed by the occupation are discovered, attempting to hide their traces by burying them under waste heaps or debris of public places like schools or hospitals, as what happened inside Al-Shifa Medical Complex and Sheikh Zayed Towers School.

This situation is worsening due to the municipalities' inability to handle these large quantities of waste and rubble, owing to a lack of appropriate machinery and equipment after the occupation bombed dozens of municipal vehicles and equipment. There is also absence of sufficient fuel to operate whatever materials and machinery are currently available.

We warn of this confirmed environmental and health disaster, hold the occupation responsible for it, and urgently call for intervention to provide the necessary resources for municipalities and civil defense to manage this situation, including machinery, equipment, and fuel. We also call for the urgent need of arrival of medical delegations and primary care to address the repercussions of this situation on citizens.

Furthermore, we emphasize the need for UNRWA and all international institutions and organizations to resume their work in the northern areas of the Gaza Strip, fulfilling their functional and humanitarian duties towards our people.
