🚨 General Directorate of Civil Defense in Gaza (1/2):

After one year of the ongoing war on the Gaza Strip, we confirm that the Civil Defense service is operating at maximum capacity, which does not exceed 20% of its basic capacity due to the deliberate targeting by the occupation of Civil Defense headquarters, vehicles, and personnel while they are performing their duties.

This has resulted in the total or partial destruction of 52 vehicles of various types, the martyrdom of 85 personnel, and the injury of 292 others.

The "israeli" occupation has completely destroyed 11 fire and rescue vehicles, 2 rapid intervention rescue vehicles, 4 water tanker trucks, 8 ambulances, a hydraulic ladder vehicle, and 12 administrative vehicles. This confirms that the occupation forces aim to halt humanitarian work and our interventions, which contribute to saving lives and protecting property.

Additionally, 7 fire vehicles sustained repairable damage, provided the necessary support and spare parts are available. Similarly, 3 rescue vehicles, 3 ambulances, and 1 water tanker truck can also be restored to service if the occupation permits the entry of appropriate spare parts for repairs.

The continued neglect by the international community and humanitarian organizations has allowed the "israeli" occupation to intensify its targeting of our assets and personnel. Our headquarters and teams have been directly targeted 6 times, and our teams were attacked 14 times while performing their duties on the scene.

More than 47% of our teams have faced physical danger, and all of them have suffered psychological harm due to the loss of family members or their homes.

Since the start of the war, our teams have carried out missions equivalent to 40 years of work in terms of response and control time, compared to their regular workload before the war.

During the genocide war, the Civil Defense received 90,000 distress calls, and managed to respond to over 75,000 of them, leading to more than 260,000 missions, ranging from rescue, evacuation, treating the injured, extinguishing fires, and recovering the bodies of martyrs.

However, our teams were unable to respond to over 15,600 distress calls due to many obstacles and difficulties imposed by the "israeli" occupation.

Over the past year of the genocide war, our teams, accompanied by medical teams, have recovered 37,210 martyrs from homes, streets, and targeted locations. The occupation has hindered the recovery of thousands of martyrs' bodies, which remain trapped under the rubble.

After one year of this devastating war, we emphasize the following:

1. The continued international neglect in providing the necessary support to Gaza's Civil Defense will sharply increase our inability to respond to citizens’ distress calls. Our teams have been unable to respond to many of these calls due to fuel shortages and the lack of essential civil defense equipment. Furthermore, the occupation forces have deliberately obstructed and hindered our teams' access in areas they invade by closing streets and entrances.

2. Civil Defense teams and humanitarian service providers in Gaza have faced enormous challenges since the start of this war, and the international institutions’ evasion of their duties has further exacerbated these challenges and difficulties.

3. We demand the provision of spare parts for Civil Defense equipment and vehicles to repair the malfunctioning equipment and vehicles so that humanitarian intervention teams can continue their work.

4. We demand protection for Civil Defense personnel while performing their humanitarian duties, as well as a halt to the targeting of the already deteriorating Civil Defense vehicles and equipment.

5. We call on the world to pressure the occupation to allow the urgent entry of various types of Civil Defense equipment so we can fulfill our duties amid the ongoing aggression and continuous bombardment throughout Gaza.

6. We demand the entry of heavy machinery to remove the rubble of targeted homes and structures to recover the bodies of more than 10,000 martyrs who remain under the debris. These individuals are not included in the official statistics of martyrs from the aggression.

7. We demand the entry of sufficient quantities of fuel for Civil Defense vehicles, as we often struggle to reach targeted areas due to fuel shortages. This has led to the martyrdom of hundreds of injured individuals who could not receive the necessary medical assistance.
