Earning income from Taxi , Uber and the Likes in the Lands of Kuffar

What is the ruling on driving taxi in the Lands of Kufaar?

As for the question from the brother who works as a taxi driver in non-Muslim countries and transports people including those who are drunk, those who play and engage in sinful behavior taking them to their homes without participating in their sins:

In principle, taking payment for this service is permissible according to the scholars, but with certain conditions.

Among these conditions is that he must not transport them to places of alcohol, entertainment, immorality, or fornication.

If he drives them from their homes to such sinful places, then this is haram (forbidden) because it constitutes cooperation in sin and transgression.

Secondly, if he transports them while they are carrying alcohol to such places, this is sinful, forbidden, and falls under the curse, because the Prophet (ﷺ)cursed the drinker of alcohol and also the one who carries it.

As for taking payment merely for driving them from those places to their homes, the basic ruling is that it is permissible, as long as:

He does not carry alcohol with them, and

He does not drive them to sinful places.

If, for example, he drives them to parks or places where fornication and immoral behavior occur, this is haram.

However, my advice to this brother is to avoid such work altogether, out of fear of falling into sin and corruption sooner or later, and also out of concern for his own safety from these drunk individuals.

For the Prophet (ﷺ)said:

> “Leave that which makes you doubt for that which does not make you doubt.”



And he (ﷺ )also said:

> “Whoever avoids doubtful matters has protected his religion and honor, but whoever falls into doubtful matters falls into the unlawful like a shepherd who grazes near a sanctuary, soon he will graze within it.”

Therefore, the advice to him is to avoid such jobs, fearing both religious harm and worldly danger, for he might be hurt by those drunk people they might beat him, steal his car, or even kill him, and so on.

Thus, the advice is to leave this kind of work, and Allaah knows best.

Regarding this question the brother says that he is always sad,
constantly in sorrow, and spends his nights in distress and tightness of the chest.


The advice to him is to increase in the remembrance of Allah (dhikr), as Allah the Exalted says:

> “And remember Allah much so that you may rejoice.”

-[Jumu‘ah (62:10)]

“And remember your Lord within yourself in humility and fear and without being loud in speech, and do not be among the heedless.”

[Al-A‘raf (7:205)]


He is advised to maintain the morning and evening adhkar (remembrances), the adhkar before sleeping, and to recite the Qur’an regularly.

He is also advised to frequently say the supplications of distress, to recite Surah Al-Baqarah, to listen to ruqyah (Qur’anic healing recitations), and to perform ruqyah on himself.

And he should not give in to this sadness, nor allow Satan to open for him the door of grief, for Allaah says:

> “So do not weaken and do not grieve, and you will be superior.”

Al-Madarij by Ibn al-Qayyim:

He said:

Painful ailments would appear to me, so severe that they almost immobilized me, especially during tawaf and other times.

I would hasten to recite Al-Fatihah and wipe it over the area of pain, and it would be as if a stone were falling off.

I tried this many times.

I would also take a cup of Zamzam water, recite Al-Fatihah over it repeatedly, then drink it, and I found in it benefited me and strength that I had never experienced with medicine.

Saalih — meaning Ibn Imam Ahmad, may Allaah have mercy on them said:


Sometimes I would fall ill, and my father would take a cup of water, recite over it, and say to me: “Drink from it and wash your face and hands.” Abdullah reported that he saw his father seek protection (‘i‘adhah) in water, recite over it, drink from it, and pour it over himself. Abdullah said: “I saw him take the bowl of the Prophet( ﷺ,) wash it in a water container, and then drink from it.”

He also saw him more than once drink Zamzam water for healing and wipe his hands and face with it.

wrote to him, saying:

"Advise me briefly."

So he (Sufyan) wrote back to him:

“May Allaah protect us and you from all evil, my brother.

Indeed, this world's sorrow never ends,

its joy does not last,
and its worries never cease.

So work for yourself so that you may be saved,

and do not be negligent, lest you regret.

And peace.”

Taqwa Of Allaah

Provision (rizq), O servants of Allaah, has causes, and one of those causes is piety (taqwa) of Allaah, the Exalted. Allah says in His Noble Book:

> “And whoever fears Allaah He will make for him a way out. And will provide for him from where he does not expect. [At-Talaq 2-3]

And whoever relies upon Allaah then He is sufficient for him. Indeed, Allaah will accomplish His purpose.”



Allaah has decreed a measure for everything.

Therefore, taqwa of Allaah, the Exalted, means… obeying His commands and avoiding His prohibitions.

Whoever fears Allaah, observes His commands, and avoids His prohibitions, Allaah will provide for him, grant him relief from every worry, a way out of every difficulty, and safety from every calamity.

He will turn hardship into ease and provide sustenance from where he does not perceive or expect.

Whoever fears Allaah, He will make a way out for him from poverty, sickness, worries, grief, enemies, and everything that burdens him.

Whoever fears Allaah, He will make a way out for him and provide for him from unexpected sources.

Therefore, O servants of Allaah, we must achieve this great matter: to attain piety, fear Allaah, and act in obedience to His commands while avoiding His prohibitions.

If we do this, goodness, blessings, provision, security, and peace will come to us.

If the people of the villages had believed and feared Allaah, We would have poured down blessings upon them from the heavens and the earth. But they denied, so We seized them for what they used to earn.


[ Al-A'raf, verse 96]


You must fear Allaah, for if you are heedless, sustenance will come to you from where you do not expect.

And how He provides! Allaah has provided for the birds and the creatures in the sea.

Yes, O servants of Allaah!

If he was already physically handsome, his beauty increases with the beauty of his obedience; and upon him is cast a light of love, dignity, and sweetness that others do not possess.

And if he was deprived of outward beauty and handsomeness, he is clothed with the beauty of obedienceits brightness, radiance, and sweetness surpassing whatever outward beauty he lacks.

The older he grows and the further he advances in age, the more his beauty, sweetness, and grace increase…”
