NYC Migrant Curfew Imposed

New York authorities have imposed a curfew in some migrant detention centers from Tuesday due to complaints from local residents about begging.

According to local residents, "desperate asylum seekers are knocking on every door, begging for food and clothing."

Now migrants will have to stay in the four collection centers - two in Queens, one in Brooklyn and one in Manhattan - between 23:00 and 06:00, and report to shelters every day.

▪️Instead of destroying Hamas, Israel is “seeding the hate for generations” with its retaliatory strikes on Gaza, Josep Borrell told reporters Monday ahead of a meeting of EU foreign ministers in Brussels. He urged parties to start thinking more concretely about a two-state peace process.

▪With civilian casualties rising and fears the conflict escalating, Israel is coming under increasing pressure, including from close allies.

▪These sentiments were demonstrated by EU foreign ministers ahead of the meeting taking place today. During the day they will be joined by envoys from Israel, Saudi Arabia, Jordan, Egypt, as well as the Palestinian Authority and the Arab League.

💸 British Guardian published an investigation that shows the UN in Iraq has been extorting money from local and foreign companies for more than 20 years to obtain contracts for the reconstruction of the country.

The scandal involves the Stabilization Fund, a UNDP initiative backed by $1.5 billion from 30 donors, including UK.

Interviews with more than two dozen current and former UN employees, contractors, Iraqi and Western officials suggest the UN fueled the culture of graft that permeated Iraqi society after the 2003 overthrow of Saddam Hussein.

🇻🇪 Venezuela arrests 32 over alleged plot to assassinate President Maduro

Venezuelan authorities have arrested 32 civilians and soldiers after a months-long investigation into their alleged part in a US-backed "conspiracy" to assassinate President Nicolas Maduro, the prosecutor's office said Monday.

All suspects have "confessed and revealed information about the plans," Attorney General Tarek William Saab told reporters in Caracas. He said they had been accused of treason and convicted for their crimes.

Saab said arrest warrants have been issued for 11 other people, including rights activists, journalists and soldiers in exile, for the alleged plot that also targeted Defense Minister Vladimir Padrino.

Padrino told the same press conference that an operation that started last year to uncover details of the alleged conspiracy was kept secret as it coincided with talks between Maduro and the United States that resulted in a prisoner swap.

The United States is gearing up for a "prolonged" bombing campaign in Yemen following ten days of airstrikes that proved ineffective in diminishing the Houthi fighters' capability to target ships in the Red Sea, as per the Washington Post.

The diplomat clarified that Washington is not seeking to defeat the Houthis and has no inclination to invade Yemen. Instead, the U.S. aims to diminish their capacity to carry out such attacks in the future. This strategy involves targeting the infrastructure facilitating these attacks and focusing on disrupting their higher-level capabilities.

Over one million people in Germany have joined protests against the far-right AfD this weekend. The biggest protest hit Munich with 250,000 participants, followed by the capital Berlin with well over 100,000. At least 90 demonstrations nationwide were registered on Saturday and Sunday.

The protests are a response to revelations of the AfD's secret meeting with the fascist Identitarian Movement. The meeting's theme was the pursuit of a "remigration" policy, whereby people with a migration background, including German citizens, would be deported.

The protests are increasingly being co-opted by mainstream parties: the Greens, SPD, and CDU, all of whom have enabled the tightening of racist deportation laws. While Chancellor Olaf Scholz attended the massive Hamburg demonstration on Friday, he himself caused shock amongst migrant communities last October when he said Germany should “finally deport on a large scale those who have no right to stay” in the country.
