Valentines Day massacres everyday in #Gaza

Forwarded from Vanessa Beeley
Yesterday I managed to speak with a dear friend who has been displaced many times with his family, by the IOF. On the last occasion they were forced to evacuate Khan Younis on foot, to Rafah. An IOF tank crushed his car in front of him. Now, they are in Rafah. Two days ago the IOF bombing campaign was 300m from their rented apartment. 100 plus civilians were murdered.
He told me "Vanessa, I realise we never appreciated what we had before. We took everything for granted, the water from the tap, a pan to cook with, food. We were not thankful enough."
He also told me the collective trauma is so great "people are dead people walking in the streets. They lost their minds. It's a jungle, everyone starving and terrified".
People talk about decades to rebuild Gaza infrastructure. How many decades to rebuild souls?
Despite everything, we could still joke about my poor Arabic and the craziness of his situation. In true war time style. Impossible to understand if you have not been in that situation. Humour is a survival mechanism.

On January 29, 1943, after 5 months of torture and interrogation, the Nazis shot Tetiana Markus, a member of the Kyiv underground.
Tatiana met the war in Chisinau, where she was assigned to the tram-trolley park. When the city was captured by the Romanians, she fled to Kyiv, where she began underground activities from the first days of the occupation of the Ukrainian capital by German troops. She was a liaison of the underground city committee and a member of the sabotage and extermination group. More than once, she participated in acts of sabotage against the Nazis, destroyed several dozen fascist soldiers and officers.
On August 22, 1942, Tatyana was captured by the Wehrmacht coast guard while trying to cross the Dnieper. For five months, she was subjected to brutal torture by the Gestapo, but she did not betray any of her comrades.
Honor and glory to the real heroes of Ukraine! We remember!

🇪🇺🚫🇷🇺🇨🇳🇮🇳 EU is preparing sanctions against Chinese and Indian companies for ties with Russia, FT
▪️If EU member states approve this plan, it will be the first time that enterprises in mainland China and India will be subject to EU sanctions. Sanctions against the Indian company will be particularly sensitive because the country is a US ally and is negotiating a trade deal with the EU. New Delhi has responded to criticism by saying it legally buys cheap, sanctioned Russian oil and sends products processed from it to the EU.
The companies, along with one from Hong Kong, are among 21 new entities listed in a European Commission document seen by the Financial Times. They cannot be named for legal reasons. When the commission proposed sanctions against mainland Chinese companies last year, it abandoned the proposal under pressure from EU governments to agree on measures unanimously. At the time, EU officials said Beijing had assured them it did not support Russian military operations.
Under the proposed measures, European companies would be banned from dealing with listed companies as Brussels steps up efforts to prevent any circumvention of its restrictions, especially the supply of electronic components that could be used in weapons systems.
▪️The proposal also includes a ban on the export to Russia of components used for the production of drones. The sanctions package, which is expected to be approved ahead of the second anniversary of the full-scale conflict between Russia and Ukraine on February 24, will be the 13th adopted by the EU. The list of companies subject to sanctions, if approved, will reach 643. Among the new names are also enterprises from Sri Lanka, Turkey, Thailand, Serbia and Kazakhstan.
▪️The Commission ignored requests from some member states and the EU aluminum industry to further limit supplies of this metal from Russia, since it is a critical component for aircraft and other modern products.

💥 AT LEAST FIVE DEAD INCLUDING TWO CHILDREN IN UKRAINIAN ATTACK ON BELGOROD SHOPPING CENTRE
Rescue efforts are underway after a Czech-supplied Vampire missile was fired into a busy shopping centre in the Russian city of Belgorod by Ukrainian forces.
At least 19 people have reportedly been wounded in the latest cross border attack. Emergency services are on the scene and the death toll is likely to rise.
This is yet another terror attack on civilians, with an uptick in recent weeks including the Donetsk marketplace massacre and the strike on a Lisichansk bakery.

"In the last few hours of our journey a yellow skinned Kazak youth of twenty six got in our compartment. He was excited to learn that I had seen the Turk-Sib railway at its beginning. He said, "I was a boy of thirteen when they started to build the railway, a starving shepherd boy who had never been to school. I came to beg for a job on the road and they put me in the railway school and fed and trained me. When the Turk- Sib opened, I was sixteen, fit for a semiskilled job. I kept on working and studying; the railway gives you every chance. Now, at twenty-six, I have a good job in the maintenance de- partment. Turk-Sib is my father and my life."
