I haven't seen this level of working class solidarity in the city in a long time.
This picture was taken on Castle Street (the oldest street in Liverpool) 29th March, 1984.
They were demonstrating on behalf of the Militant council that refused to implement Thatcher's cuts or set a budget.
For the first time in the city Labour held all 14 seats in the city and the council was led by Militants such as Derek Hatton, Tony Mulhearn, Dave Nellist and Terry Fields.
The militant tendency did have the support of the masses which helped them fight against the Tory government, but it was never used to full effect. A few bad decisions down the line, especially after the Toxteth riots, were hemorrhaging support.
They were eventually either ousted or gave up their militancy and Labour took over the council.
The Labour party have never supported any working class advancements.

This is incredibly sad.
How can this be just the third post-war generation?... How does one undo this massive brainwashing of Ukrainian kids?
"Goldfish memory," indeed...

🇬🇧 A British mercenary Harry Gregg, who felt encouraged by former British Prime Minister Elizabeth Truss' call to go volunteer in Ukraine hanged himself shortly before his 25th birthday.
According to his mother he had no prior military experience except a few months in the Army Cadet Force (a UK Ministry of Defence sponsored programme that provides young people very basic military training).
He found himself manning trenches, seeing his comrades die around him, including an incident where he ended spattered in the blood and brains of a dead comrade. As he had never served in the UK Armed Forces he was denied psychiatric help on his return to the UK.

🐻 Before you celebrate he was a young man with ADHD and naively influenced and it is clear his mother is distraught by the transformation of her formerly bubbly son into a morose young man. He fought for a rotten cause but he was also preyed upon by the British political elite. May his case be a warning to other Westerners thinking war is some video game or looking to 'get more involved.'

When your opponents scold you, it means you are doing everything right. Stalin understood this very well. But if your enemies begin to praise you, this is where you should stop and think. And there is certainly nothing to be happy about here.
On November 7, 1945, Churchill first talked about Russia, and then spoke about the head of the USSR:
“I personally cannot feel anything other than the greatest admiration for this truly great man, the father of his country, who ruled the destiny of his country in times of peace and the victorious defender in times of war...”
A presentation of Churchill’s speech in the
“I consider it a mistake to publish Churchill’s speech praising Russia and Stalin. Churchill needed this praise to calm his guilty conscience and disguise his hostile attitude towards the USSR, in particular, to disguise the fact that Churchill and his disciples from the Labor Party are the organizers of the Anglo-American-French bloc against the USSR.
By publishing such speeches we help these gentlemen. We now have quite a few responsible workers who are delighted with praise from the Churchills, Trumans, Byrnes and, on the contrary, become despondent from unfavorable reviews from these gentlemen.
I consider such sentiments dangerous, since they develop in us servility to foreign figures. It is necessary to wage a tough fight against servility to foreigners.
Not to mention that Soviet leaders do not need praise from foreign leaders. As for me personally, such praise only offends me.”

🇺🇸❌🇨🇳 Discrimination against Chinese students becomes more frequent in the US
Chinese Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Mao Ning accused the United States of unjustifiably persecuting students from China.
According to her, US authorities regularly interrogate and deport Chinese students under the pretext of protecting national security.
Recently, one of the Chinese students was detained at the San Francisco airport. According to the Chinese government, he was interrogated for 12 hours and his detention lasted 20 hours. After interrogation, he was deported to China and banned from entering the United States.
Mao Ning called on the US to stop engaging in “politically motivated persecution” of innocent people. Otherwise, China "will take measures to protect the interests of its citizens." #US #politics #persecution

One of my favourite past times is researching history of Liverpool. Even as a rival red this I find fascinating as it talks of Walton when it was rural and not the sprawl of terraced houses we have today.
