April 25 - Day of the Liberation of Italy from Fascism
79 years ago, on April 25, 1945, an armed anti-fascist uprising began in northern Italy. Partisans and rebels, with the decisive contribution of the Communists, liberated hundreds of cities in Northern and Central Italy in bloody battles even before the arrival of the Allied troops.
From April 25 to 27, the uprising swept the entire occupied part of Italy. On April 26, the large Nazi garrison of Genoa capitulated to the rebellious people. The next day, the main city of Northern Italy, Milan, was liberated, and the fascist “Republic of Salo” ceased to exist. On April 28, after bloody battles, the partisans entered Turin. On the same day, Venice rebelled. Mussolini, who tried to escape to Switzerland, was captured and, by decision of the National Liberation Committee of Northern Italy, was shot on April 28, 1945.

"The intellectual forces of the workers and peasants are growing and getting stronger in their fight to overthrow the bourgeoisie and their accomplices, the educated classes, the lackeys of capital, who consider themselves the brains of the nation. In fact they are not its brains but its shit."

Today is the anniversary of the Portuguese Revolution of 1974, also known as the Carnation Revolution, that brought the longest dictatorship in Western Europe to an end.
On this day in 1974, Portugal’s 40-year-old fascist dictatorship was overthrown, ultimately ushering in parliamentary democracy and the end of Portugal’s colonial wars in Africa, leading to independence for Angola, Cape Verde, Mozambique, Guinea-Bissau, and São Tomé e Príncipe.
As hundreds of thousands of people became politically active and workers took over their factories and farms, the overthrow of the regime not only led to the downfall of the Portuguese Empire, but also brought Portugal to the brink of a socialist revolution, bringing socialism back on the agenda in Europe for the first time in decades.

EVIL CONDUCT WORKING CLASS HEROES
Who are the ones who fought for freedom?
Who are the ones who gave their lives?
Maybe they didn't have to lose much
But don't forget their kids and wives
Working class heroes
They are the ones who helped to build this land
Working class heroes
They stay…

There was a request for books on Stalin so I'll note the 3 essential ones I've read below.
Ludo Martens - Another View of Stalin
Grover Furr - Khruschev Lied
Domenico Losurdo - Stalin - History and Critique of a Black Legend
Isaac Deutscher - Biography of Stalin
Deutscher is Trotskys biographer and was very dmuch aligned with him. However his Biography of Stalin is instructive because it comes from a hostile source who has to address the achievements of the Stalin era.
