On this day, 13 May 1985, Philadelphia police attacked the home of Black liberation and environmentalist group MOVE with automatic weapons, then dropped a bomb on it, killing five adults and six children, destroying 61 homes in the predominantly Black neighbourhood, and making 250 people homeless.
Almost 500 police officers fired over 10,000 rounds of ammunition into the house, which was filled with women and children, while other officers blew holes in the walls with explosives. The police commissioner then ordered the house to be bombed, which they did using an improvised device made from C4 given to them by the FBI.
Only two people survived the blast and ensuing fire: Ramona Africa, and Michael Ward, aged 13. While no officials were prosecuted, Ramona Africa was subsequently jailed for seven years on riot and conspiracy charges. The incident occurred during the tenure of Philadelphia's first Black mayor, a Democrat named Wilson Goode.

🇨🇳📈🇮🇳 China Surpasses U.S. as India’s Largest Trading Partner
Trade between India and China exceeded $118 billion in the 2023-24 financial year. Indian exports to China were worth almost $17 billion, while imports totalled nearly $102 billion.
The major sectors which benefitted from the increase in trade include iron ore, cotton yarn, fabrics and garments, handlooms, spices, fruits and vegetables, plastic and linoleum.
Meanwhile, exports to the US fell by 1.32 per cent to $77.5 billion, while imports decreased by at least 20 per cent to $40.8 billion. #India #trade

Ten years ago, terrorists committed a massacre against the people of Sadad town in Homs countryside, claiming the lives of dozens of martyrs, both civilians and soldiers. But the town has rise again despite the weight of its wounds.
Today, First Lady Asmaa Al-Assad participates with the people of the town in their celebration of Easter according to the Eastern calendar. She visited the Church of St. George, which was reconstructed a hundred years ago, and met its curators.
In celebration of this holiday, the “Sadad Al Farah” event was held under the auspices of the “Always Youth” Syriac Orthodox university fraternity.

Air sirens are sounding constantly while blasts are heard as air defences work to keep the city safe. We took cover in nearby buildings amid alerts of imminent missile attacks.
This is now daily life for the people of Belgorod
