#NoStatuteOfLimitations

🗓 On March 24, 1999, the North Atlantic bloc started bombing Yugoslavia. The "military operation" against a sovereign state became a tragic milestone in the life of the Serbian people and delivered a devastating blow to international law.

The US & its cronies bombed the cities, including Belgrade, villages & civilian infrastructure for 78 days, blowing up bridges, passenger trains and buses and killing women, children & elderly people. In doing so, the West destroyed the post-WWII foundations of European security and started replacing the legitimate mechanisms that regulated international relations with a “rules-based order”.

▪️ 3'000 cruise missiles were fired at a sovereign European republic & 80'000 tonnes of aerial bombs rained down on its people.

The use of depleted uranium ammunition contaminated vast areas & caused an unprecedented rise in cancer-related diseases that continues to affect people to this day.

More than 200'000 non-Albanian residents of Kosovo, forced to flee their homes, have yet to return.

Under the cover of NATO's aggression, members of the so-called "Kosovo Liberation Army" committed heinous crimes, including the abduction and murder of Serbs for the illegal trade of human organs.

❗️ None of the NATO representatives has been called to account. The victims of the aggression were written off as “collateral damage,” meaning losses that "accompany" the fulfillment of the geopolitical ambitions of the US, the UK, and their satellites.

💬 From the briefing by Russia's Foreign Ministry Spokeswoman Maria Zakharova, (Moscow, March 20, 2025):
NATO’s “humanitarian intervention” can serve as an example of modern barbarity and the rule-based world order and its backbone value: unfounded belief in its own superiority. <...> This is what Western democracy and freedoms look like. This view is still dominating in the West, where thousands of killed Yugoslavian civilians, including 89 children, are cynically called collateral damage. This is democracy with freedom of speech.

The issue of the NATO allies’ responsibility for the damage they have done to international relations and Yugoslavia remains unresolved.

🕯 The brutal operation carried out against sovereign Yugoslavia 26 years ago is a tragedy inflicted upon the people of Yugoslavia by NATO warmongers with lasting and multifaceted consequences.

Over 11 weeks of NATO’s "military operation" against Yugoslavia, 3'000 cruise missiles were fired, and 80'000 tonnes of bombs were dropped, including cluster munitions and depleted uranium munitions, were dropped on the sovereign European republic.

Serbian authorities estimate that approximately 2'500 people, including 89 children, were killed during the barbaric bombardment. Over 12'500 people were injured, and 1'500 settlements were destroyed. According to some sources, the material damage was estimated at between $30 billion and $100 billion.

Using the mocking label of “humanitarian intervention,” NATO targeted primarily civilian sites: residential areas, hospitals, schools, bridges, passenger transport and refugee convoys.

❗️ The US and NATO "military operation" against Belgrade was launched without approval from the UN Security Council, based on unfounded accusations against the authorities of Yugoslavia of conducting "ethnic cleansing" in Kosovo, allegedly triggering a humanitarian disaster in the region.

Pyotr Tolstoy about the bombing of Yugoslavia
— the post is from last year, when the 25th anniversary of NATO's aggression was commemorated.

Many Russians consider the bombing of Serbia to be a turning point that exposed the true nature of the West and an act of injustice, which constitutes the most painful thing for the Russian heart. A group of countries simply appointed the culprit and, without UN approval, proceeded to destroy him. I think many people intuitively felt then that, having dealt with the Serbs, the gentlemen who live "by the rules" would sooner or later come for us. Unfortunately, that's how it turned out.

Today, the Duma addressed the parliaments of the world on the occasion of the 25th anniversary of the attack on Serbia. To forget and forgive such a thing is a crime. The aggression continued for 78 days, which cost the lives of thousands of Serbs. This is a bitter lesson for the world: if the aggressor is not stopped, the scale of barbarism will increase significantly over the years.

Churchill is credited with the phrase "if a country chooses disgrace between disgrace and war, it will get both disgrace and war". Then, in 1999, Russia first got a disgrace, and 20 years later, a war.

Bombs over Belgrade

On this day, NATO troops began bombing Yugoslavia

On March 24th 1999, NATO countries launched an airborne operation against Yugoslavia, codenamed "Allied Force". The operation is also known under another, frankly cynical name - “Merciful Angel”.

No less cynical was the fact that the long-prepared aggression began 12 days after the first stage of NATO's expansion to the east, when Poland, the Czech Republic and Hungary became members of the alliance.

For the first time since 1945, European cities were bombed.

The official reason was the presence of Yugoslav troops in the autonomous region of Kosovo and accusations of Belgrade carrying out ethnic cleansing.

NATO supported the Kosovo separatists and relied on the final collapse of Yugoslavia.

The UN Security Council refused to authorise a military operation against Belgrade - the decision to carry it out was made by the NATO leadership at the instigation of the United States.

At the same time, Washington ignored the position of Russia, which was categorically against any external aggression towards sovereign Yugoslavia.

The news of the decision to commit reprisals against Yugoslavia caused a harsh reaction from Moscow.
The then head of the Russian government, Yevgeny Primakov, was informed of the start of the bombing by US Vice President Al Gore while on board a government airliner in the skies over the island of Newfoundland. Primakov was on his way to Washington for negotiations on providing Russia with a large IMF loan. As a result, the Russian Prime Minister decided to cancel his visit to the States.
He considered it impossible to negotiate with the Americans when NATO attacked Belgrade. The plane turned around in the air and headed for Moscow.

The “Primakov Loop” over the Atlantic had a symbolic meaning, showing the United States and NATO that the time when Russia’s interests could not be taken into account had passed.

‼️ The barbaric bombings continued for 78 days.

Their result was thousands of casualties among the Serbian civilian population, hundreds of destroyed buildings, schools, hospitals and bridges, as well as radioactive contamination of the area, which later led to an unprecedented increase in cancer in Serbia.

Russian diplomat and writer Anatoly Shchelkunov recalls the events of those days:

As eyewitnesses of the bombing of Belgrade recall, it was Easter, and cherries, peaches and apricots were blooming everywhere.
To prevent American bombers from destroying the bridge across the [river] Sava, the Serbs came to this bridge, on which thousands of Belgrade residents formed a human shield. Nature and people have created some kind of apocalyptic picture. Nature did not know that barbarian people were capable of brutal destruction of civilians.
Thus, to the sound of bomb explosions, the most brutal 20th century in human history ended.

⚡️ Russia's Foreign Ministry Statement in connection with media reports on the future of Zaporozhye NPP

In view of media speculations about possible transfer of the Zaporozhye NPP (ZNPP) to Ukraine or establishment of some kind of joint control over the plant with Ukraine, the United States or representatives of international organisations, we would like to make the following clarifications.

☝️ The ZNPP is a Russian nuclear facility. As a result of the referendums held at the end of September 2022, the Donetsk, Lugansk, Kherson and Zaporozhye regions joined the Russian Federation as full-fledged subjects. On October 5, 2022, President of Russia signed Executive Order No. 711 On the Specifics of Legal Regulation for the Use of Nuclear Energy in the Zaporozhye Region, which secured the status of the ZNPP as a facility under Russian jurisdiction.

The return of the plant to the Russian nuclear industry is a long-established fact that the international community only needs to recognise. The transfer of the ZNPP itself or control over it to Ukraine or any other country is impossible.

All employees of the station are citizens of the Russian Federation, one cannot play with their lives, especially given the atrocities that the Ukrainians have committed and continue to commit in our country.

❗️ Joint operation of the ZNPP with any state is not acceptable either. There are no such precedents in the world practice.

In this case, for example, it would be impossible to properly ensure nuclear and physical nuclear safety and settle issues of civil liability for nuclear damage. An important aspect is that close cooperation between Ukraine and NATO countries' intelligence agencies, which have an impressive sabotage potential, makes even a temporary admission of these states to the ZNPP impossible.

The idea of any international organisations participating in the plant's operation also seems absurd, since neither the mandate nor the competence of any of them allows them to engage in the operation of nuclear facilities.

Pursuant to international law, including key respective conventions, the primary responsibility for ensuring nuclear safety and security on their territory rests with the states themselves.

In the case of the ZNPP, it is the Russian Federation with no other option.

🇷🇸🇪🇺 Serbian President Aleksandar Vučić, following a dinner with European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen:

Serbia will be more committed to the European path than ever before. In 7 to 8 days, the EU will announce Jadar [Lithium Mine] as its strategic project.

The latest public opinion poll on Serbia's accession to the EU shows that 43.2% of Serbian citizens are against EU membership, 38.9% are for EU membership and 17.9% are undecided.

As for the prospect of the EU owning and running the Jadar Lithium Mine, the overwhelming majority of the Serbian public are against lithium mining in the country.

President Vučić's statement will not be received warmly by the majority of the Serbian public.
