BATUK, the British Army Training Unit in Kenya, has requested the East African nation's high court to dismiss a lawsuit concerning the purported murder of a young woman by its soldiers over ten years ago.

Agnes Wanjiru's remains were found in a hotel septic tank in 2012, several months after she was observed entering the establishment in the company of the accused British soldiers. The Sunday Times reported last year that a social media post involving soldiers present at the hotel during the time of the incident might hold incriminating evidence.

Disagreements between London and Nairobi have emerged concerning jurisdiction over British soldiers who breach Kenyan law, escalating tensions. Recent local conflicts have also been exacerbated by additional incidents, including allegations of environmental violations by BATUK.
