Islamists expand offensive in Syria
Islamist militias, such as HTS and SNA, have expanded their offensive in north-western Syria. They are now said to be attacking not only the Syrian army west of the megacity of Aleppo, but also the Shehba region further north, which belongs to the Democratic Autonomous Administration of North and East Syria. Hundreds of thousands of Kurds who were displaced by the occupation of Afrin in 2018 live there.
During the night, militias allied with Turkey are said to be firing artillery at positions of the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF). The first battles are said to have already taken place on the ground along the front line. Turkey also carried out air strikes on Tel Rifaat in Shehba and Ain Issa further east.
The SDF began to send reinforcements to the Manbij region during the night, although Shehba is an enclave trapped between Turkish-occupied areas and regime areas.

Escalation in Syria: Islamists Loyal to Turkey Launch Attack on Kurdish Areas
Following the outbreak of the heaviest fighting in Syria in several years, Kurdish areas are now under acute threat from attacks by jihadist groups cooperating with Turkey. While the Islamist group Haiat Tahrir Al-Sham (HTS), the Syrian branch of al-Qaeda formerly known as al-Nusra Front, has been advancing on Aleppo since Wednesday and fighting with the Assad regime’s forces, the Turkish-loyal mercenaries of the so-called Syrian National Army (SNA) are currently preparing a major attack on the Kurdish region of Tal Rifaat in northwestern Syria. The Turkish army is already bombing the region from the air and on the ground. Attacks on the Kurdish town of Ain Issa have also been reported. According to local sources, Turkey has also opened the border to northwestern Syria, allowing more jihadist fighters to enter Syria.

⚡️ Turkish backed Islamists launch offensive against Rojava
According to the latest reports, Islamist militias allied with Turkey have launched an offensive against the democratic self-administration in northern and eastern Syria (Rojava).
The Tel Rifaat region south of the Afrin region, which was occupied in 2018, and the Kurdish districts of Aleppo are currently at risk of being surrounded by Islamist forces. A number of advances in the region have also been reported, although the exact extent cannot yet be estimated.
The self-administration had already declared a general mobilization at midday in order to protect the region and defend the self-administration.
According to estimates, around 200,000 refugees from Afrin live in the region alongside the local population, and the Islamist militias currently invading the region have repeatedly committed atrocities and war crimes against the local population since 2018.

Since yesterday, HTS has consolidated and continued their incursion into Syrian government territories. In the last few hours, Turkish-backed SNA factions have advanced and captured more villages in Shehba, a region under the DAANES’ administration.
RIC interviewed Menan Cehfer, a resident of the Sheikh Maqsoud neighborhood in Aleppo, who says, “The situation is getting darker. Basic needs such as water, electricity, and bread are running out. We are under siege. It seems the militias are using an indirect approach to make us surrender. However, for us, surrender is not an option.”

Statement by Our SDF Commander-in-Chief Mazlum Abdi Regarding the Recent Developments in Northwestern Syria
The situation in northwest Syria has developed rapidly and suddenly, with our forces facing intense attacks from multiple fronts. Following the collapse and withdrawal of the Syrian Army and its allies, we intervened to establish a humanitarian corridor between our eastern regions, Aleppo, and the Tal Rifaat, with the aim of protecting our people from potential massacres.
The attacks of the armed groups backed by the Turkish occupation have disrupted this corridor.
Our forces have valiantly defended our people in Aleppo, Tal Rifa’at, and al-Shahba’a
We are actively coordinating with all relevant parties in Syria to ensure the safety of our people and facilitate their secure relocation from the Tal Rifa’at and Shahba’a areas to our safe areas in the northeast of the country
Concurrently, our forces continue to resist to protect our people residing in the Kurdish neighborhoods of Aleppo.

We will be worthy of them and continue their struggle with an unshakable determination. We call on every socialist, feminist, anti-fascist and democrat, to take a stance against those criminal attacks.
