For the official 'Day of Martyrs of North and East Syria', which commemorates all martyrs but especially those of the Qereçox hill massacre (25.04.2017), we spoke with YPJ Commander Nesrin Abdullah about the meaning of martyrdom and martyrs for the revolution. She remembers the martyrs of the Qereçox hill massacre and explains how the people's response to this attack became paradigmatic for a common struggle for the democratic nation and freedom.

Kurdish National Conference in Rojava

On Saturday, hundreds of representatives from various Kurdish parties and organizations gathered in the northern Syrian city of Qamishlo to agree on a common position on the reorganization of the Syrian state.

The conference was attended by various organizations, some of which have been in conflict with each other for years. These included not only groups affiliated with the Kurdish freedom movement and organizations such as the PKK, KCK, YPG, and YPJ, but also conservative parties such as the KDP and PUK from northern Iraq.

The conference adopted a list of demands for a decentralized state model in Syria that would guarantee comprehensive equality for Kurds and all other communities in Syria. Political equality for women was also adopted as a central demand.

In addition to the reorganization of Syria, the process in Turkey toward a possible solution to the Kurdish question was also discussed.

Statement of the YPJ General Command in regards to the newest developments in Syria:

📌"In light of the recent developments in Syria particularly following Hay’at Tahrir al-Sham’s (HTS) seizure of power and the overthrow of the Ba’athist Syrian regime we observe that the conflict in Syria has deepened, descending further into widespread chaos."

HTS, with its authoritarian and oppressive mentality, seeks to subjugate the deeply rooted peoples of this land, such as the Alawites and Druze, deliberately sowing sectarian conflict and fueling tensions among the diverse communities of the region."

📌"As the Women’s Protection Units (YPJ), we categorically condemn these terrorist crimes committed against our Druze and Alawite peoples, who are an integral part of Syria’s social fabric."

HPG calls for action against ongoing Turkish attacks on guerrilla areas with all kinds of weapons

HPG warned that the guerrilla forces would exercise their right to shift to an active stance and develop responses in various forms if the attacks on their areas were not halted.

Despite a ceasefire declared unilaterally by the Kurdistan Workers' Party (PKK), the Turkish army continues to escalate their attacks on the guerrilla-held Medya Defense Zones in southern Kurdistan (northern Iraq). According to the HPG balance sheet for March, the Turkish army carried out a total of 11,585 air and ground attacks against the guerrilla areas in northern Iraq. On April 7, two guerrillas were martyred in the Çirav area in Garê region as a result of two bombardments carried out by an UCAV of the occupying Turkish army. On April 11, two guerrillas were martyred as a result of Turkish attacks with chemical weapons and banned explosives in the Zap region.

Centre for Strategical Research in Kurdistan: The attack on the Damascus Mosque was carried out by HTS members

"On June 23, 2025, a massive explosion rocked the Greek Orthodox Church of Mar Elias in the Dweilaa neighborhood of Damascus, Syria. The attack killed 22 civilians and injured more than 60 others. The explosion caused significant material damage to the church and was reported to have been carried out by a suicide bomber. Syrian Interior Minister Nureyn Baba announced that initial investigation indicated that the attack was carried out by the terrorist organization ISIS.

According to information we have received from reliable sources, the terrorist attack on the Church of Mar Elias in the Dweilaa neighborhood of the Syrian capital Damascus was carried out by two members of Hayat Tahrir al-Sham (HTS), the “new Syrian ruling authority."

In the same context, sources confirmed that the person who blew himself up was Ziyad Anwar Al-Idlibi, alias “Abu Al-Baraa”, an official member of HTS."
