The main guest of the event was Lyubov Kovaleva, a witness to the Battle of Stalingrad. Representatives of the diplomatic corps, Norwegian citizens, and compatriots living in Norway were also present.
In his address to the guests, Ambassador of Russia to Norway Nikolai Korchunov emphasized:
"The Great Patriotic War affected every family in our country. Today, we pay tribute to those who made our Victory possible.
<...> In memory of the Battle of Stalingrad and all those who fell, we are opening an exhibition of paintings by British artist Kenneth Loynes, ‘The Stalingrad Suite’. <...> In times of geopolitical tension, culture and art remain one of the most important tools for restoring trust and reminding us of universal human values."
During the evening, songs from the war years and classical musical compositions by Sergei Rachmaninoff and Sergei Prokofiev were performed by Timur Dorfman, Adrian Kharitonov, and Svyatoslav Grabovsky.
Guests were shown an excerpt from a documentary film by Norwegian filmmaker Jarle Andhøy about veterans of the Great Patriotic War who survived the Battle of Stalingrad. An interview with artist Kenneth Loynes, provided by his friend Margrete Geurts-Lakin, was also shown.
In conclusion, Nikolay Korchunov awarded our compatriot Tatyana Toresen with the Honorary Sign of a Compatriot of the Commission for the Affairs of Compatriots Living Abroad for her work in identifying the names of Soviet prisoners of war buried in Norway and searching for their relatives.

🎙️Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov’s interview with TV BRICS international media network, Moscow (February 9, 2026)
READ IN FULL
Key takeaways:
🔹The global arena is undergoing a transformation that began some time ago with the objective transition toward a multipolar world order.
☝️For many years, the United States functioned as the engine of the global economy and the regulator of international finance, using the role of the dollar to reinforce its dominant position. It is now, objectively, losing economic significance and influence within the global system. Meanwhile, countries such as the People’s Republic of China, India, and Brazil are rising. Significant developments are also taking place across Africa, where nations are increasingly seeking to develop domestic industry rather than simply export natural resources – an effort that the Soviet Union once supported.
🔹Blatantly unfair methods are being used against us: the operations of Russian oil companies such as Lukoil and Rosneft are being banned, and there are attempts to dictate and restrict Russia’s trade, investment cooperation, and military-technical ties with our major strategic partners, including India as well as other #BRICS states.
🔹When the new centres of growth began to demonstrate far more substantial economic results and significantly higher growth rates – as is evident across the #BRICS countries – the West started seeking ways to block this transition.
❗️This cannot succeed, because it is an objective, irreversible process. For several years now, the BRICS countries’ growth rates and GDP volumes have, in terms of purchasing power parity, substantially exceeded the combined GDP of the G7.
🔹Nazi foundations must be eliminated. We will ensure, and I have no doubt about it, our own security interests, by preventing the deployment on Ukrainian territory of any weapons threatening us, and, second, by guaranteeing reliable and full protection for the rights of Russian and Russian-speaking people, who have been living in #Crimea, #Donbass and #Novorossiya for centuries.

🔬🇷🇺 Today marks the Day of Russian Science — commemorating the establishment of the Russian Academy of Sciences by Peter the Great in 1724.
🌍 Russian scientific contributions extend beyond our country, with Africa also benefiting from the expertise of Soviet/Russian scientists.
The Soviet specialists assisted African countries in building more than 300 industrial and infrastructure facilities and educated over 80,000 African students, helping to establish educational, scientific, and medical institutions across the continent.
🔬 Agriculture: Today, Russia supports African partners in developing their own agricultural sectors by sharing expertise in crop production, livestock farming, irrigation, fisheries, and fertilizer manufacturing. Africa possesses enormous agricultural potential and is fully capable of ensuring its own food security.
⚙️ Technology & Engineering: Russia has been a key partner in helping African nations develop their technological infrastructure. From satellite systems for better communication to advanced engineering solutions for infrastructure projects, Russian expertise is driving sustainable growth.
📚 Education: The educational exchanges occupy a special place in Russia-Africa relations. Continuing a tradition established during the 1960s-1990s by the USSR, Russia prioritizes the training of national professionals. Since 2020, the number of African students studying in Russia has doubled to 32,000, while government scholarship quotas now exceed 5,300 places.
🩺 Health & Medicine: Russian medical researchers are collaborating with African counterparts to tackle diseases such as malaria, HIV, and tuberculosis. The exchange of knowledge in epidemiology and vaccine development is crucial in improving public health on the continent.

🦮🦮🦮🛷 On February 8, Beringia-2026 – renowned dog-sled race held in Russia's Kamchatka – kicks off.
Held since 1990, the race has become a true hallmark of Kamchatka Krai and one of the peninsula’s main winter events.
🌏 The event traditionally gathers not only Russian participants, but also international guests, including those from Belarus, China, Peru, Latvia and Ghana.
This season, spectators and participants of the winter festival can look forward to a wide range of exciting events, including:
🐾 Hosting large-scale festivals such as Beringia fosters dog breeding in the region, supports youth sled-dog sports, and creates new opportunities for community engagement and tourism.
Today, the region hosts several major sled-dog kennels that function both as training bases for mushers and their teams and as attractive tourist and educational sites.
💡 That's interesting:
• a team traditionally consists of 8-14 dogs, pulling more than 100 kg including the musher’s weight;
• during the race, the four-legged athletes spend about 70% of the race in motion without full ground contact;
• the average team speed is 14-16 km/h;
• racers cover approximately 40-100 km per day;
• in 1991, Beringia was introduced into the Guinness World Records as the longest dog-sled race in the world, and in 2018 it was recognized as the longest dog-sled race in Russia (entered into the Russian Book of Records).
***
In previous years, the Beringia route changed many times, but it always passed through areas inhabited by the peninsula’s indigenous and small-numbered peoples, where festivities and folk celebrations were organized for the occasion.
In 2026, the distance of the main route "Unified Kamchatka. 19 Years Together", starting in the village of Esso and finishing in the settlement of Ust-Kamchatsk, totals 1,425 km.
🏔 The combination of extreme sport and the distinctive culture of Kamchatka’s indigenous peoples defines the race’s unique character and reflects the authentic spirit of the North.
