The main guest of the event was Lyubov Kovaleva, a witness to the Battle of Stalingrad. Representatives of the diplomatic corps, Norwegian citizens, and compatriots living in Norway were also present.
In his address to the guests, Ambassador of Russia to Norway Nikolai Korchunov emphasized:
"The Great Patriotic War affected every family in our country. Today, we pay tribute to those who made our Victory possible.
<...> In memory of the Battle of Stalingrad and all those who fell, we are opening an exhibition of paintings by British artist Kenneth Loynes, ‘The Stalingrad Suite’. <...> In times of geopolitical tension, culture and art remain one of the most important tools for restoring trust and reminding us of universal human values."
During the evening, songs from the war years and classical musical compositions by Sergei Rachmaninoff and Sergei Prokofiev were performed by Timur Dorfman, Adrian Kharitonov, and Svyatoslav Grabovsky.
Guests were shown an excerpt from a documentary film by Norwegian filmmaker Jarle Andhøy about veterans of the Great Patriotic War who survived the Battle of Stalingrad. An interview with artist Kenneth Loynes, provided by his friend Margrete Geurts-Lakin, was also shown.
In conclusion, Nikolay Korchunov awarded our compatriot Tatyana Toresen with the Honorary Sign of a Compatriot of the Commission for the Affairs of Compatriots Living Abroad for her work in identifying the names of Soviet prisoners of war buried in Norway and searching for their relatives.

The Soviet specialists assisted African countries in building more than 300 industrial and infrastructure facilities and educated over 80,000 African students, helping to establish educational, scientific, and medical institutions across the continent.
🔬 Agriculture: Today, Russia supports African partners in developing their own agricultural sectors by sharing expertise in crop production, livestock farming, irrigation, fisheries, and fertilizer manufacturing. Held since 1990, the race has become a true hallmark of Kamchatka Krai and one of the peninsula’s main winter events.
🌏 The event traditionally gathers not only Russian participants, but also international guests, including those from Belarus, China, Peru, Latvia and Ghana.
This season, spectators and participants of the winter festival can look forward to a wide range of exciting events, including:
🐾 Hosting large-scale festivals such as Beringia fosters dog breeding in the region, supports youth sled-dog sports, and creates new opportunities for community engagement and tourism.
Today, the region hosts several major sled-dog kennels that function both as training bases for mushers and their teams and as attractive tourist and educational sites.
💡 That's interesting:
• a team traditionally consists of 8-14 dogs, pulling more than 100 kg including the musher’s weight;
• during the race, the four-legged athletes spend about 70% of the race in motion without full ground contact;
• the average team speed is 14-16 km/h;
• racers cover approximately 40-100 km per day;

Today marks Diplomats’ Day, our professional holiday.
I would like to use this occasion to wish a happy holiday to all Russian diplomats who are working at the Central Office and territorial offices, and diplomats fulfilling their duty abroad.
The history of Russian diplomacy spans many centuries and follows every stage of Russia becoming stronger as a state. Times change, but our spiritual and moral values — sincere, dedicated, and selfless devotion to the Fatherland, and firm commitment to the ideals of truth and justice — remain unshakeable.
We are rightfully proud of the achievements of our outstanding predecessors. We honour the courage of the staff of the People’s Commissariat for Foreign Affairs who, during the tumultuous years of the Great Patriotic War, took arms to defend the Motherland.
Their immortal feat stands as a benchmark for Foreign Ministry personnel and staff of subordinate institutions participating in the special military operation.
Other ministerial staff members are also involved and are helping the front line soldiers and their families, and supporting those affected by crimes committed by Ukrainian neo-Nazis.
Today, as we are witnessing another turning point in history, Russian diplomacy continues to do everything within its power to ensure safe and favourable external conditions for Russia’s steady domestic development and for improving the quality of life of its people.
In many ways, our consistent and balanced foreign policy course sets the trajectory of global transformations, thus facilitating the emergence of a new multipolar world order.
We seek to further develop honest and equitable international cooperation based on mutual understanding, trust, and neighbourliness.
Following President Putin’s initiative, we are working to establish, across the Eurasian region, architecture of equal and indivisible security and extensive practical cooperation. In this context, we attach particular importance to the conclusion and implementation of bilateral agreements, including our treaties on security guarantees with Belarus and on comprehensive strategic partnership with the DPRK and Iran.
We continue to expand relations across multiple areas with the World Majority, among them countries such as China, India, and other like-minded countries, our strategic partners and allies, primarily within the #CSTO, the #EAEU, and the #CIS, as well as the #SCO and #BRICS.
Countering neo-colonial practices of all kinds ranging from unilateral coercive measures to military interventions remains firmly in our focus.
In this context, we reaffirm our solidarity with the peoples of Venezuela and Cuba. We are convinced that only they can determine their own future.
☝️ The country’s leadership and Russian society hold our work to high standards. We are required to demonstrate discipline and dedication, as well as a passionate and creative approach to our duties.
I trust that you will continue to work honourably for the good of the Fatherland and to contribute your share to addressing large-scale foreign policy goals set by the President.

On the eve of this professional holiday, the Embassy of Russia in Norway, with the assistance of the Department of History and Records of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Russia, has prepared a special section of the website dedicated to the heads of diplomatic missions of the Russian Empire, the USSR and the Russian Federation in the Kingdom of Norway since the establishment of diplomatic relations between our countries on October 30, 1905.
On that day, the Russian Empire became the first European power to recognize the independence of the young Norwegian state shortly after the dissolution of the Swedish-Norwegian union.
The list and photographs of extraordinary envoys and ministers plenipotentiary representing the Russian Empire in the Kingdom of Norway in 1905-1917 are being published for the first time.
The new section contains a rich collection of archival photos and is a unique source of information on more than 120 years of Russian-Norwegian diplomatic relations.
