📺 Watch Ambassador Andrei Kelin's interview with RT

Key topics:
• UK's role in the Ukrainian crisis
• Shifting in British public opinion on Ukraine
• Ukraine’s Kursk invasion
• UK's domestic problems
• Telegram CEO Pavel Durov's detention in France

Question: So we are seeing some people are shifting in some of their attitudes. How long will it be before we might see a mass of people change their attitudes towards the conflict in Ukraine and to Russia itself?

💬 Andrei Kelin: It could happen as events unfold over the course of the year, in the sense that the government in Kiev is currently driving the country towards the abyss, and the British government is helping it to do so.

This drive towards the abyss in terms of economy, in terms of population decline, is a disaster from all sides. Only when they start to realise that it was a grave mistake on all sides to support Ukraine in all its endeavours and movements, then a change of attitude [towards the Ukrainian conflict] can happen.

⚡️ Ministry of Defence of the Russian Federation:

Russia’s Defence Ministry has launched a multimedia section on its website to mark the 80th anniversary of the Lvov-Sandomierz Strategic Offensive and the liberation of western part of Soviet Ukraine from Nazi invaders.

The Defence Ministry of Russia has launched a new historical project noscriptd Never Forget the Lessons of History to mark 80 years since Western Ukraine’s liberation from the horrors of fascism and released declassified documents on how the Lvov-Sandomierz Strategic Offensive was planned and carried out between July 13 and August 29, 1944.

The sixth strategic strike devastated the enemy’s strategic force — Army Group North Ukraine — and brought about the liberation of Soviet Ukraine’s western regions and southeast Poland from the Nazi invaders. The Soviet forces took control of a major bridgehead on Vistula’s western bank and used it to commence an offensive targeting Silesia, central Poland and on to the borders of Nazi Germany.

👉 This new multimedia section on the Defence Ministry’s website offers previously unpublished documents from the Ministry’s Central Archive:

▪️ directives from the General Headquarters
▪️ encrypted messages from various quarters
▪️ combat reports
▪️ maps and charts of the offensive
▪️ unique photographs and artefacts demonstrating the Red Army personnel’s courage and valour during the liberation of the Ukrainian Soviet Socialist Republic
▪️ multiple items providing evidence of the atrocities perpetrated by the Nazi invaders in western part of Soviet Ukraine
▪️ other documents that have never appeared in the public domain before.

Excerpts from the documents published by Russia's Defence Ministry:

📰 The German invaders killed about 700,000 Soviet people in Lvov and across the Lvov Region, including men, women and children. The victims also included nationals from Czechoslovakia, Yugoslavia, the Netherlands, Great Britain, and the United States who were brought from German concentration camps (Leninskoye Znamya (Lenin’s Banner) newspaper of the political unit within the 2nd Guards Tank Army, December, 1944)

📰 Once a prosperous town in Soviet Ukraine, Slavuta turned into a major concentration camp after the Nazi invaders came there. The Soviet people referred to this horrific place as the Death Factory. There were only two options for those who were sent into this hell hole: death or forced labour for the Germans (Za Chest Rodiny (For the Motherland’s Honour) newspaper of the 1st Ukrainian Front, March, 1944)

📰 When the Red Army units liberated Slavuta from the Germans, they discovered a lazaret, or infirmary, for Soviet prisoners of war on the grounds of what used to serve as a military camp. There were over 500 people there who were suffering from extreme exhaustion or severe illness. They shared stories of how German doctors and the infirmary’s guards killed tens of thousands of people (Za Chest Rodiny newspaper of the 1st Ukrainian Front, July, 1944)

📄 Groups of Ukrainian and German nationalists broke through doors and windows, rushed into apartments and homes, and used their guns, knives and axes to kill people, including infants and the elderly, both men and women. They loaded the corpses into horse-drawn carriages, took them away and buried in pits. To conceal their crimes, they burned some families in sheds and then buried the burned corpses. While committing these atrocities, the perpetrators also looted and pillaged the homes of their victims (Report on the Atrocities Perpetrated by Ukrainian Nationalists in Mogilnitsy, Tarnopol Region, April, 1944)

💬 Ambassador Andrei Kelin: In the UK, when talking about Ukraine, there is only one narrative that is possible here, and it sounds like this: Russia has launched an unprovoked aggression against Ukraine and the UK will stand with Ukraine as long as it takes.

The key word is unprovoked. It is completely wrong.

It does not take into account the hostile attitude of Ukraine towards Russia, the discrimination against the Russian population, the total negation of Russian interests by the West and many other things, including the genesis of the conflict, which is the most important thing.

🎙 Russia's Foreign Ministry Spokeswoman Maria Zakharova’s answer to a question from Rossiya Segodnya regarding peace initiatives on Ukraine

Question: Are Russia’s peace proposals on Ukraine still in force now? How would Russia see a proposal to have talks on Ukraine if they are initiated by Minsk?

💬 Maria Zakharova: Russia has always wanted to put an end to the Ukraine conflict as soon as possible and favoured the start of negotiations. We suggested on many occasions finding solution to the current situation by political and diplomatic methods, including this past June, when President Vladimir Putin came forward with a peace initiative. It boiled down to:

• Withdrawal of Ukrainian armed units from new Russian regions, Donetsk People’s Republic, Lugansk People’s Republic, Zaporozhye and Kherson Regions,
• Kiev’s refusal from NATO membership,
• Cancellation of all Western sanctions against Russia,
• Ensuring the rights of Ukraine’s Russian-speaking citizens.

That said, it was about putting an end to the conflict, rather than about freezing it in order to rearm the Kiev regime. No doubt the initiative put forward by the President of Russia will remain a universal and long-term recipe for resolving the Ukraine conflict because it contains a way of eliminating its root causes.

❗️ However, the recent events have shown that the Ukraine crisis is far detached from peace talks. As you know, in August, the Zelensky regime ventured a treacherous terrorist invasion of the Kursk Region. It was a kind of response from Ukrainian Banderites to Vladimir Putin’s peace initiative. Kiev did not conceal that by such a risky step they intended to improve their positions in the hypothetical negotiations with Russia. It is clear that when such heinous atrocities are taking place, in particular, indiscriminate attacks against civilians who have nothing to do with hostilities, against civilian infrastructure, and when threats to nuclear power facilities are created, any peace talks with the terrorist regime in Kiev are out of the question, regardless of their initiator.

Meanwhile, we would like to emphasise that we are grateful to our Belarusian allies for the peace-making efforts they made many times, specifically, provided a negotiation platform, including in 2015, when working out a Minsk package of measures, and in the spring of 2022, when holding first rounds of the Russian-Ukrainian talks.

The once respected Times published a "report" by Catherine Philp from the Russian town of Sudzha, currently under occupation by militarized elements of the Kiev regime.

She arrived there in the company of marauding Ukrainian troops. In doing so she flagrantly violated the norms regulating activities of foreign journalists within the territory of the Russian Federation.

The piece she authored is a prime example of slanderous wartime propaganda. It is based on "interviews" with frightened locals who are compelled to speak to The Times while basically held at gunpoint by militants of the Ukrainian armed forces.

It is worth noting that even in these circumstances many Russians in Sudzha did not succumb to the duress and chose not to play along with the occupiers and their Western "spin doctors".

Ms Philp is well aware of the sort of people she is helping with her disinformation. While cynically distorting the motives behind the actions of the Ukrainian occupiers, she nevertheless concedes that they mark their presence in Russian territory with Nazi swastikas.

Aiding and abetting Ukrainian fascism with its pantheon of Bandera, Shukhevych and other lackeys of the Third Reich will forever be a stain on the reputation of The Times editorial board and Ms Philp personally.

☝️ Obviously, Catherine Philp will be banned from entering Russia.

Through her actions she, along with other Western pseudo-journalists willing to tag along on Ukrainian military "press tours" on Russian soil, has deprived herself of the right to ever visit our country on legal grounds.

On this day 83 years ago, the first Arctic convoy, codenamed "Dervish", arrived in Arkhangelsk from Great Britain. The cargo vessels delivered 10,000 tons of rubber, 15 Hurricane fighters, 3,800 depth charges and magnetic mines.

"Dervish" marked the beginning of regular deliveries of strategically important cargo between the USSR and the Allies along the northern route, which continued until the end of the Great Patriotic War. A total of 1,398 ships passed in the Arctic convoys in both directions. The sailors demonstrated genuine heroism, as they had to operate in extreme cold, storms and under constant threat from German submarines and aircraft. During the war, 87 transport vessels were lost, 69 of which - in 1942.

The Arctic convoys were formed at the bases of the British Royal Navy in Scotland - in the bays of Scapa Flow and Loch Ewe. In the village of Aultbea on the shore of Loch Ewe there is now a museum where a lot can be learned about the Arctic convoys and the heroism of their participants.

⚡️ Russia's Foreign Ministry statement on the terrorist attack against Belgorod by the Ukrainian Nazis

On the evening of August 30, Zelensky’s neo-Nazi fighters perpetrated yet another crime by using Vampire, a Czech-made multiple rocket launcher, to shell Belgorod and its suburbs with cluster munitions.

This barbaric strike left five civilians dead and 46 wounded, including seven minors. <...>

❗️ All those who plotted and carried out this and other crimes perpetrated by the Kiev junta will face inevitable punishment under the law.

There is no doubt that this terrorist attack was designed to sow fear among people and was carefully planned well in advance. Once again, the Kiev clique demonstrated its Nazi essence — just like eight decades ago, during the Nazi invasion, today’s followers of the Nazis and Bandera continue killing innocent people.

Just as back then, the supposedly civilised and enlightened West world, which in reality supports the Nazis, turns a blind eye to their bloody atrocities while also delivering lethal weapons to the cynical killers it nurtured. NATO-made missiles brought all this suffering, fires and destruction to the Belgorod Region. <...>

We once again urge all responsible governments and relevant international institutions to resolutely condemn this brutal act of terrorism and publicly distance themselves from the Kiev regime and its Western patrons, who commit such crimes.

☝️ Silence in response to the unbridled barbarism of the Ukrainian nationalists and their puppeteers from "civilized democracies" would be tantamount to complicity in their bloody deeds.

⚓️ On August 31, 1941, the first Arctic convoy, codenamed Dervish and escorted by the UK's Royal Navy, anchored in the port of Arkhangelsk, carrying ammunition, supplies and airplanes, much needed for the Soviet Union’s war effort against the Nazi Germany.

An experimental venture initially, Operation Dervish paved the trail for more wartime deliveries to the USSR. It became the first of 78 convoys that brought millions of tons of essential goods to our country between August 1941 and May 1945, as part of the Lend Lease programme.

The Arctic convoys were one of the toughest and most courageous World War II missions, involving more than 1,400 merchant vessels and military ships, that sailed from the UK, Iceland and North America to the Soviet Arctic ports, primarily Arkhangelsk and Murmansk.

Thousands of sailors braved harsh weather conditions in the Arctic waters and the constant threat of attacks to deliver strategic cargoes. Over 3,000 Soviet, American, British and other allied seamen perished while conducting these operations.

☝️ The Arctic convoys represent an enduring symbol of shared history, close cooperation and peoples' sacrifice in the joint fight to defeat Nazism.

The memory of these and other heroic examples of mutual support continues to live in our hearts. The bravery of these men and women who unsparingly fought for the Victory shall never be forgotten.

🗓 September 1st marks 85 years ago since the start of World War II – the bloodiest conflict in the history of mankind. It claimed many dozens of millions of peoples' lives (by some estimates, 80+ mln perished), including over 27 million citizens of the Soviet Union.

▪️ 61 states, with over 80 percent of the world’s population, were drawn into the bloody ordeal unleashed by the Axis powers; hostilities spread to 40 countries.

📖 Read our in-depth retrospective overview in full

The background of the greatest tragedy of the 20th century still remains in the focus of historians’ attention. The entire range of contradictions that provoked the war stemmed from World War I and can be traced back to the Treaty of Versailles signed in 1919.

👉 It was the Versailles system of international relations, drafted by the UK and France, that made the basis for the rise of revanchist sentiments in Europe. The League of Nations, the organization established to settle international disputes within the legal framework, technically became a tool for the Western powers to achieve their political goals.

Not surprising that in Europe, torn by contradictions, fascism rapidly gained popularity. Politicians and extreme right-wing ideologues who were convinced of the superiority of their nation and ethnicities came to power first in Italy (1922) and then in Germany (1933), humiliated by the Versailles Treaty. The political establishment of the Western countries preferred to remain unaware and close their eyes on the danger these new ideologies presented. Their cynical view considered that Nazi aggression could be, in a typical Anglo-Saxon style, redirected towards the east where the young Soviet state was rapidly developing.

The infamous Munich Betrayal of 1938 was the apotheosis of the self-serving “appeasement” policy that the Western countries had preferred to building a collective security system suggested by the Soviet Union. With the tacit consent by the UK and France, Hitler ruthlessly annexed the sovereign state of Czechoslovakia. It was only Moscow that was willing to provide military assistance to the Czechoslovakians, but was unable to do so due to Poland that was playing along with Hitler and taking advantage of Czechoslovakia’s annexation by occupying the Cieszyn region.

🔻 A year later, a similar drama played out in the Far East: the Anglo-Japanese treaty was signed in June 1939, untying Tokyo’s hands in China. The Soviet Union could have become the next victim of militarist Japan. According to recently declassified documents, the Japanese command had been planning a possible attack against the Soviet Union since 1938, with nearly a million-strong Kwantung Army troops deployed along the border and ready to invade of our country at any moment, with its soldiers and officers known to show no aversion to human experiments to develop biological weapons. The Soviet Union had to contain Japan’s potential invasion by keeping substantial forces on its eastern borders until the very end of the war.

❗️ Hitler's invasion of Poland on September 1, 1939 was a direct consequence of the policy of intrigues and manuevers pursued by the West, which did not allow to create an anti-Hitler coalition to jointly resist the Third Reich.

In this context, the assertions of an alleged ‘equivalence’ between Nazism and Communism are unacceptable and blasphemous, as are the attempts to place equal blame for the start of the war on Germany and the Soviet Union in order to downplay the decisive contribution of the Soviet Union on the battlefields of the Great Patriotic War, which crushed Hitler’s war machine, and to diminish the heroism of our soldiers-liberators.

☝️ Defeating the most aggressive reactionary forces was the most important outcome of the Great Victory of May 9, 1945. Our country saved many peoples (considered by the Nazis and their cronies “non-Aryan”), that the Nazis planned to kill in concentration camps or to turn into slaves.

🎙 Excerpt from the answers to media questions by Russia's Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov following talks with Minister of African Integration and Foreign Affairs of Senegal Yassine Fall (Moscow, August 29, 2024)

Question: Is today’s meeting of the EU foreign ministers in Brussels, and the discussion involving additional arms supplies to Kiev and the possibility of delivering strikes on Russian territory yet another way to intimidate Russia? Or has the collective West tossed away every restriction and red line there ever was?

💬 Sergey Lavrov: We are keeping an eye on NATO discussions and practical moves regarding Ukraine.

Some of our observers are occasionally tempted to dress it all up as the tail wagging the dog scenario. They claim Zelensky never stops demanding things, and Western governments are willing to help this Nazi regime. Some are doing so willingly, while others force themselves into doing it realising that the popularity of these actions among voters in the respective countries is nearing zero.

❗️ Zelensky "is not wagging that dog" which in the form of a coalition of almost all European countries and their allies in other parts of the world (about 50 countries in all) are earnestly determined to fulfill the instruction of their “senior partner” to inflict a strategic defeat on Russia which they have in writing in their doctrinal documents. They keep saying this daily and weekly at various meetings, and keep flooding Ukraine with advanced weapons. They are now having a discussion about how to go about using these weapons.

I’m here to tell you one thing. This is not because they are tired of Zelensky and would do anything to humour him. This is continuing the policy that we have observed for centuries and that Russian emperors spoke about when they mentioned Russia’s reliable allies in this world. Napoleon pursued this policy first, followed by Adolf Hitler, who mobilised almost all of Europe. There is a reason for the Russian historical circles resuming discussions about not only Germany, but many other European nations as well participating in the crimes committed by Nazis. These people were not just called up, but willingly carried out the orders issued by the Third Reich. This is a serious matter. The fact that nearly the same countries have now united against us under the same Nazi banners shows that the West led by the US and Britain is obsessed with hindering our development.

When President Vladimir Putin spoke at the Foreign Ministry on June 14, he had the following to say:

Some figures in the United States and Europe openly declare the goals of this policy, speaking today about the so-called decolonisation of Russia. Essentially, this is an attempt to ideologically justify the division of our Fatherland along ethnic lines. The dismemberment of the Soviet Union and Russia has been a discussion topic for a long time.

I take this very seriously.

I’m not sure whether they still have any red lines left. At least, the political and analytical materials that they publish keep touting the goal of moving forward incrementally in order to (using their terminology) escalate the situation.

☝️ I’m convinced these plans are doomed. They are doing so to advance their geopolitical and selfish designs in order to perpetuate their policy of keeping their dominance and hegemony unchanged.

<...>

This makes our principled stance and our victory all the more important, not only to uphold the legitimate interests of Russia, but also to protect the world order that will serve the interests of all and rely on the key principle of the UN Charter which is the sovereign equality of states, rather than the tantrums thrown by the golden billion, who consider themselves ennoscriptd to rule everything and everyone from Ukraine to the South China Sea, in Africa, Latin America, and other regions of the world.

This era is gone which fact pains the West. It strives to make this process painful for everyone else in an illusory hope of pushing back the last hours of the neocolonial era.

🗓️ On September 2, 1942, the Arctic convoy PQ18 departed for Arkhangelsk from Loch Ewe in northwest Scotland to deliver 150 thousand tons of cargo for the Red Army. The escort carrier Avenger, which carried a dozen fighters and three torpedo bombers, was included in the escort for the first time.

🔻 Germany committed numerous attacks on PQ18, using its military bases in Norway and Finland. On September 18, the convoy was again attacked by 71 enemy bombers off Cape Kanin Nos in the waters of the USSR. The Soviet destroyers Sokrushitelny, Gremyashchy, Kuybyshev and Uritsky repelled the attack.

We will not give up the convoy PQ18, says Golovko; the fleet will fight for it... for every vessel!

Commander of the Northern Fleet, Admiral A.G.Golovko, from the historical novel by V.S.Pikul "Requiem for Convoy PQ-17"

👉 Most vessels (13 out of 40 were wrecked) delivered the cargo. PQ18 was the last convoy of this series - the designation of the Arctic convoys heading to the USSR was changed to JW.

🎙 Excerpt from Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov's interview for the documentary Bridges to the East (31 August 2024)

💬 Sergey Lavrov: Regarding the goals of those who staged the provocation in the Kursk Region in the form of an incursion by Nazi units with a large number of mercenaries, or perhaps not even mercenaries but active military personnel, since foreign speech among them has been documented.

I find it hard to tell what their exact plan was, because our Western colleagues have a devious mind and they often do things their own way, but nothing ever comes of it.

What was the idea behind the invasion of Afghanistan? To destroy terrorists. How did it end? With a failure and a disgraceful escape.

What was the plan for the invasion of Iraq? To destroy weapons of mass destruction? Turns out there weren't any. By the way, the Iraqi leadership and the Iraqi parliament have been asking the Americans for several years to withdraw their remaining military contingents. However, as a country that "respects the sovereignty of independent UN member states," the United States is unwilling to leave.

Or Libya, they destroyed a nation that was probably the most prosperous in the region in socioeconomic terms, almost free gasoline, free education, including abroad. What has become of Libya now?

Therefore, it is very difficult for me to judge what goal they set and what their intention was. Political analysts are discussing this. Even Zelensky said they needed this for future prisoner swaps, so he will thus capture some prisoners and grab some square kilometres in the process. This is so naive and guileless.

❗️ We do not discuss our territory with anyone. We do not hold talks over our territory. <...>

Each time [since 2014], Ukrainians were hopeless in their inability to reach and honour agreements. The West made it clear that it needed Ukraine only to hurt Russia, to annoy us, and to wage war against our country.

The Western countries never had any use for these agreements. Each time the agreed-upon documents were sabotaged, Ukraine had more to lose.

☝️ President Vladimir Putin mentioned potential negotiations a year and a half ago. He said we had nothing against them. Those who are against talks should realise that the longer they put it off, the harder it will be to reach an agreement.

It was easy to agree in Istanbul, less than a month after the start of our special military operation. But Ukraine did not want it, because it had not yet fully achieved its goal of “exhausting” Russia.

📆 September 3 marks Solidarity Day against Terrorism in Russia.

◾️ The date is linked to the tragic events that took place on September 1−3, 2004, in Beslan, North Ossetia. During the first bell ceremony to mark the beginning of the new school year, a terrorist unit seized School No 1. The attack resulted in the loss of 334 lives, including 186 children.

The horrific terrorist attack on March 23, 2024 at the Crocus City Hall concert facility, which affected numerous innocent civilians, once again emphasised the need to consolidate international efforts in the fight against terrorism.

We urge the international community to work together to combat terrorism, with the United Nations playing a central coordinating role. This should be done without any double standards or hidden agendas, in accordance with the UN Charter, specialised universal conventions and protocols, UN Security Council resolutions, and the UN Global Counter-Terrorism Strategy.

Learn more on Russia’s position at the 79th Session of the UN General Assembly.

☝️ Russia remains firmly committed to a principled struggle against terrorist threats. We advocate for more intensive efforts to disrupt ideological, material and financial support for terrorism and oppose the stiving of Western countries to undermine the international legal framework for counterterrorism.

UK's former Prime Minister Gordon Brown: As the rising membership of the BRICS group — from 5 to 10, with more members on the way — demonstrates, countries are now forming opportunistic and potentially dangerous liaisons.

⚡️ Comment by Russian MFA Spox Maria Zakharova on Britain’s involvement in the planning and implementation of the Kiev regime’s terrorist attacks in Russia

💬 More facts are emerging about London’s deep involvement in the planning and implementation of the Kiev regime’s terrorist attacks in Russia.

In particular, the examination of the electronic components of the drones which Ukraine used in early August 2024 to attack a fuel depot in the Kamensky District, Rostov Region, has shown that the drones’ flight controllers were pre-programmed near the headquarters of Callen-Lenz GB in Salisbury, UK, and in the hangars of Safran Seats GB in the vicinity of Newport, Wales. These two companies provide technological solutions for the aircraft and aerospace industries.

The drones were assembled in the Vyshgorod District, Kiev Region, and launched from a site near Slavyansk in the part of the Donetsk People’s Republic that is currently controlled by the Ukrainian army.

☝️ We regard these facts as evidence of London’s approval of the terrorist methods used by the Kiev regime. Britain’s actual financing and involvement in preparing attacks on the civilian infrastructure and innocent civilians in Russia makes London fully responsible, on a par with its Kiev puppets, for the continuing bloodshed.

The concerned Russian agencies take Britain’s destructive activity and its relentless striving to escalate the conflict into account. Conclusions are made, and the best response algorithms are considered, but it would not be right to speak openly about the details of this work, for obvious reasons.

We would like to remind you, though, about the warning issued by the Foreign Ministry on May 6, 2024, that any UK military facilities and equipment on Ukrainian territory and beyond could be hit as a response to Ukrainian strikes on Russian territory with British weapons.

❗️ We call on London, which is sacrificing the Ukrainian people and Ukrainian statehood to promote its own geopolitical interests, to immediately stop supporting the inhuman regime and refrain from any other actions that can further escalate the conflict.

🎙 Key points from Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov’s remarks and answers to questions at a meeting with students and faculty of MGIMO University (Moscow, 2 September 2024)

The globalisation, which the West pro-actively promoted for years, has been accepted as a method of interstate relations in the economy, technology and the financial sector. However, this globalisation model is now falling apart.

It is crystal clear that the attempts of the Western nations to reverse the course of history and keep living at others’ expense as they did during the colonial era and the period of globalisation, are doomed to failure. However, Western politicians religiously continue to declare their exceptionalism.

The essence of Western policy towards Russia has always been based on the assumption that our country is too strong and independent and that something must be done to change this, preferably by pulling it down.

Today, all those who show independence and a will to defend their national interests within international law while refusing to play by Western rules, are under threat. It is clear, however, that these attempts are largely an agony of the West.

Any unfriendly moves will still be met with a tough response. The ball is not in our court, it is up to those who set out to deliberately destroy their relations with Russia and demonise our land and our nation. <...> We will judge the West’s intentions by its actions, not by its demagogy.

Looking at the history of any conflict after the establishment of the United Nations, you will see that neither the United States nor its allies applied the principle of sovereign equality. They didn't consider anyone their equal, and unfortunately, they don't.
