One difference between how Pagans viewed Hell vs how Christians viewed it is that Pagans believed that eternity was not linear but cyclical, and that Heaven and Hell (or more accurately Heavens and Hells) were realms of Spirit where your Soul lived in between reincarnations in mortal worlds.

Hell was not necessarily eternal, but a place where the Evil paid for their crimes, like a temporary Soul prison.

The souls of the wicked could eventually purify themselves with good deeds & Virtue in future physical lives and then eventually progress from “hell” to higher spirit realms, and eventually even to Heavenly spirit realms, once they had redeemed themselves.

Unlike Christianity, spiritual redemption depended on the personal will and effort of the Soul in question, and not on the blood sacrifice of a jewish man.
