Situation Report—February 6, 2023

Maryinka—Reports indicate that Maryinka has finally been taken, together with a large number of Ukrainian POWs. Absent an unexpected and substantial counterattack from the Ukrainian forces, and after final clean-up, we can expect complete liberation within the next two days at most, likely much earlier.

Krasnaya Gora has been liberated by the Russian Army (Wagner PMC units), with the area abutting Paraskoveevka expected to be cleaned up overnight.

Krasny (Ivanonskoye) settlement, south-west of Artyomovsk (Bakhmut), straddling the route from Artyomovsk to Chasov Yar, has been bypassed and taken into semi-encirclement. The last remaining solid supply highway to Artyomovsk is now physically cut, and the city is operationally enclosed. The path through Chromovoye is insufficient for the purpose of maintaining the defence of the city, though it may be sufficient for a retreat, under the artillery fire of the Russian army.

This in addition to the earlier liberation of Dvurechnoye and Gryanikovka, northeast of Kupyansk, and the advance of the Russian forces to Sin’kovka, on the Oskol direction.

The Ukrainian forces have been bled and depleted of reserves and resources. They are having a very hard time finding fresh troops to throw into battle, unable to counter Russian pressure on multiple directions. The liberation of Artyomovsk May now be a matter of a week. The Ukrainian defence will continue tearing where it is weakest, and the weak spots continue to multiply.

The goal is to maintain—and increase—this pressure until the material fatigue and breakdown starts becoming an avalanche, leading to the crumbling of the Ukrainian front lines in multiple areas at once.

One major push may transform everything at the front. I don’t believe in “15.02.23” (likely intentional misinformation) but I believe that a global offensive is coming very soon.

APU lost 150 soldiers trained abroad in Zaporozhye: what is the reason

From January 25 to February 5, during several attempts to conduct reconnaissance in force in Zaporozhye, units of the Armed Forces of Ukraine suffered heavy losses, the commanders and personnel of which were trained according to NATO standards in the UK in October and November 2022.

Regular Ukrainian servicemen were trained by instructors from the UK, Australia and New Zealand, but instead of a full (two-year) retraining course for regular military personnel, Ukrainian officers passed only the initial stage.

According to preliminary information, after passing a three-week course on interaction with units at the platoon-company level, the personnel of the Armed Forces of Ukraine were subsequently sent to the Zaporozhye sector of the front.

In the area of the settlement of Krasnoe in Zaporozhye, officers of the Armed Forces of Ukraine received reinforcements from soldiers mobilized without combat experience and who survived the battles from the 102nd and 128th territorial defense brigades.

On the morning of January 26, units of the 102nd Territorial Defense Brigade received an order to conduct reconnaissance in force and open the positions of the RF Armed Forces in the area of the settlements of Krasnoe and Malinovka in Zaporozhye. During the combat exit, the group was detected by Orlan-10 and Orlan-30 drones and 35 minutes after the start of the movement, it was hit by 300-mm Tornado-S systems. Having lost about 80 people killed and wounded, the Ukrainian troops retreated to their original positions.

On the morning of February 3, under the cover of the 15th artillery and 3rd tank brigades, two battalions of the 128th territorial defense brigade tried to conduct reconnaissance in force on the border of the DPR and the Zaporozhye region, near the villages of Olgovskoye and Poltavka. However, from the air, a column of armored vehicles MaxxPro, Wolfhound and Kirpi of sandy yellow color was discovered by the pilots of the Su-25 duty link.

After the strike of the Su-25 attack aircraft, the losses of the 128th brigade amounted to more than 80 people killed and wounded. According to prisoners from Ukrainian units evacuated from the battlefield by special forces of the RF Armed Forces, after the first approach to a convoy of attack aircraft, commanders of platoons and companies of the Armed Forces of Ukraine who were trained in the UK left their wounded subordinates without communications, medicines and ammunition and fled in an unknown direction.

“The Russians have occupied more than a third of Bakhmut” — a Ukrainian officer is quoted by the BBC.

A Ukrainian officer told the TV channel "Present Time" that the Russians have partially occupied the city: the industrial zone and the private sector along the river. They are managing to break through sections of the front and get closer to our positions. Now the city is constantly, systematically under mortar fire from the Russian forces," said Denis Yaroslavsky, commander of one of the Ukrainian units.

According to Denis Yaroslavsky, the Russians have taken under fire the two main roads leading from the Ukrainian rear to Bakhmut, and are now finally cutting off the city's supply routes.

According to the Ukrainian officer, Bakhmut is now being stormed not by Wagner PMC fighters, but by regular units.

"They talk in professional military language. This is really all the criteria and actions that confirm that this is the regular army of the Russian Federation. Yes, they are trained—that cannot be underestimated. Even if they are mobilized, they are partially diluted [with regular cadres]—they are more regulars than mobilized. But they are trained, they work with their eyes in the air just as we do. They work with drones, they systematically look over all the territory. They are trained. You have to admit that the enemy is learning, the enemy is complex. And there is no easy walk here," concludes the Ukrainian officer.

To the north, the AFU defenses near Paraskoviyivka have also cracked and may well be squeezed through here as well by morning.

Everything suggests that if the Wagners have not yet gone for a decisive assault on the city (or to block it from the north and south), they will start it very shortly. In other words, the time is already running out for days, not weeks.

And the lack of AFU reserves is to blame. They are in short supply, and ours are pressing everywhere and at once. And that is why apart from Artemovsk we have successes today near Kremenna, near Marinka (probably tomorrow it will be already announced about its capture), and near Kupiansk.

And near Ugledar, the enemy reserves withdrawn from the north (that is, from where we have success) are waiting for our strike. And they will. But in due course.

📌The current situation in the Bakhmut direction

▪️North of Bakhmut:
The units of Wagner PMC are fighting for control of the villages of Krasnaya Gora(Krasnaya Gora is almost completely understand the control of Wagner PMC) and Paraskovievka. 

▪️ Stupka district:
Units of the Wagner PMC entered Bakhmut from the north. At the moment, advanced groups of musicians are entrenched along the 1st Ushakov Lane.

▪️Meat Processing Plant District:
The assault detachments of the Wagner have completed the alignment of the front along Selkorovskaya Street.

▪️ Zabakhmutka district:
over the past day, the units of the Wagner PMCs have advanced towards Garshin Street, expanding the control zone on Chernyshevsky and Dobrolyubov streets.

▪️Sobachevka district:
The musicians have leveled the front line from the Opytnoye side and continue to advance deep into the urban development.

▪️South of Bakhmut:
➖The offensive of the Wagner PMC continues towards the Budenovka district.
