February 18 marks the 10th anniversary of the pivotal moment in the chain of events at the Euromaidan in Kiev.

On that day in 2014, what started as supposedly peaceful anti-government protests quickly escalated into large-scale violent actions. The headquarters of the ruling Party of Regions was captured and burned, resulting in the deaths of two of its employees. Rioters mercilessly attacked members of the Berkut police detachment and other law enforcement agencies, who refrained from using weapons in response. Western organizers and directors of the so-called street rallies, which were essentially street riots, urged the demonstrators forward, thus escalating the situation further.

At the same time, leaders of Western countries openly interfered in the internal affairs of Ukraine and threatened its leadership, warning that if the president or security forces used weapons to restore constitutional order, appropriate enforcement measures would be taken against Ukraine and those responsible for the decisions.

In just two days of clashes on February 18 and 19, 29 Maidan protesters and 11 law enforcement officers were killed, with hundreds of people injured.

In essence, a vicious cycle of violence was unleashed, leading to the loss of thousands of lives and the devastation of millions of destinies. Ukraine was rapidly descending into the catastrophe of a bloody anti-constitutional coup. Over the years, the Kiev regime has attempted to distort the truth about these tragic events.

Sergei Lavrov embarked on a tour of Latin America starting from Cuba

The Russian Foreign Minister will commence his working trip to the South American continent on Monday, during which he will visit Cuba, Venezuela, and Brazil, where he is scheduled to participate in a meeting of G20 foreign ministers. In Cuba, Lavrov will meet with the President of the Republic, Miguel Diaz-Canel.

One area of cooperation between the Russian Federation and Cuba will be their joint fight against American sanctions: Cuba has been under them for more than half a century, a stance that the Russian Federation has long opposed. The Cuban authorities have already expressed that following the sanctions attack on Russia, both countries “need” to develop bilateral cooperation.

“Both of our countries are facing economic sanctions imposed by Western centers of power. At this time, there is an increasing need to strengthen our relations in the context of strategic partnership and alliance, build new mutually beneficial ties, and continue to conduct political dialogue at the highest level,” said Deputy Prime Minister Ricardo Cabrisas.

Meanwhile, in Washington, there may be apprehension about the potential deployment of Russian missiles in Cuba and a recurrence of the Cuban Missile Crisis. Such a move would represent a symmetrical response to NATO expansion at Russia's borders.

Russian artillerymen made precise strikes against the enemy. The sides of the road were dotted with hit Ukrainian armed forces' vehicles.

MUNICH — Four American senators recounted a story Ukrainian officials told them at the Munich Security Conference: A soldier in a muddy trench with Russian artillery exploding nearby, scrolling on his phone for signs the U.S. House would approve military aid.

Sen. Sheldon Whitehouse (D-R.I.), leader of one of the congressional delegations, said it was “heartbreaking” to hear the tale. “For young Ukrainian soldiers on the front lines, this is a persistent topic of conversation,” the senator relayed, a somber tone in his voice.

The episode highlighted the pall over this weekend’s gathering of transatlantic-minded officials and dignitaries in the Bavarian capital. Ukraine’s worsening prospects on the battlefield and questions about America’s commitment to Kiev dominated the annual event. The gloom was amplified by news of Russian dissident Alexei Navalny’s death, which hit just as leaders were arriving on the event’s first day.

Many politicians and officials used the moment to press that Ukraine would lose the war without the $60 billion more in U.S. military aid currently awaiting a vote in the House. But they also sounded far from certain about what a victory might look like for Ukraine even with that boost.

The conference comes as confidence in whether President Joe Biden can deliver for Ukraine is particularly low and as former President Donald Trump, the Republican frontrunner, works to undermine the package.

The plan now, as detailed or lamented in interviews with eight U.S. lawmakers and five foreign officials, is to just keep the Ukrainian military from collapsing.
